I don't remember seeing a window sticker with this car when I looked at it at Carlisle. Can anyone confirm this? Kenny?

Original? Tell me this then. Why do the exhaust manifolds look painted, the gas tank tremclad painted, and the exterior is immaculate but the underside is a rust bucket? Hmm, what's wrong with this picture? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif

Steve Shaugger and his VINTAGE Camaro Team certified PASCOE's above 70 Z-28 as an Original Survivor at the 2006 Carlisle ACA Camaro Natl's......case closed !!!!
I can't quote the VINTAGE rules/guidelines but the fact that ORIGINAL Exhaust manifolds and OEM Smog parts were reinstalled would not disqualify the car from VINTAGE status. The Bottom of the car has normal surface rust...and was left as found, versus restoring/repainting which would deter from its survivor condition. The undercarriage probably could have been cleaned more, ala Jack Seymours 70 Hugger Orange Z, but evidently Kenny chose not to spend the mega hours that Jack invested in his. To refer to this car as a rustbucket is an outrageous "fib"
Kenny Pascoe is one of the best exterior detailers I have seen and the ORIGINAL finishes on this car, show it........

That is an excellent unrestored car. It achieved exceptional status in our certification program. We ask participants not to fluff their cars prior to our certification. A little patina never hurt anyone.
If anyone has any specific questions PM me.

Please don't take this the wrong way, I think this is a really nice car but I think it is over priced for a 71 Z. Even 70 Z's aren't worth this kind of money and I too own one. I am not looking to sell mine but if someone offered me 65 grand like this one on Ebay, I guess I'd have to let her go. I'll post a couple pics of mine here just because I'm really proud of her http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif She's a 43,000 orginal car with 1 repaint, orginal exhaust, muffler, and spare tire in the trunk.

The above Forest Green car appears to have NA-9 calif emissions hoses coming from (unseen) charcoal cannister. Please confirm this as Calif built and SOLD 70 Z........or educate me otherwise ????????????
Below, I offer 2005 pics of David James L.A.70 Z-28. This NA-9 Camaro acheived LEGENDS status, with the highest points total ever awarded a 2nd Gen Camaro at Carlisle.....

You definately know your Camaros Chuck. You are right, this is a Calf built car with Calf emissions and was delivered new to a dealership in Alameda Calf. The canister is there but the smog was gone when I aquired the car. It also has the corect Holley list# 4489 carb that was specific to Calf emission cars only.
Rich, to answer your question about the rear spoiler.... it was there when I aquired the car. The build sheet says D80 for the spoiler so I assume that the tall spoiler was added by a previous owner at some point when the car was re painted.

Your forest Green 70 is nice... and if it had original paint... it too would bring $65k+ but that is the difference... big money is being ponied up for all original car now days. They stand on their own with no excuses or apologies the faults and imperfections or lack there of give(s) them character.

This is the first 70 Z I've ever seen in black. All the books that I've seen have said that black wasn't availabe on a Camaro in 1970. I guess you learn something new every day. Also, I notice that your outside rear view mirror is chrome rather that the sport body color mirror. What's up with that if I may ask??? Very stunning looking car by the way!

Doesn't the Ebay listing show it as '71 and not a '70? Am I missing something http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif
For the second gen freaks out there, was black available in '71?
Nice looking ride though either way.

The chrome mirror shown was the standard mirror and from what I understand the left hand remote sport mirror was standard on the Z/28. If you wanted the right sport mirror in 1970 you had the order the sport mirror option to get the RH side. Chuck?
Not sure why the standard mirror is in there? Maybe special order like the black paint.
Rick H.
The left hand remote sport mirror was not standard on the '70 Z-28.

I've got numbers switched here. 71 Z got the LH standard with the RH ordered with sport mirror option. 72 Z both mirrors came standard.
The chrome standard mirror looks good with the black paint.

We're talking about two seperate cars here..... the one listed on Ebay is a 71, and the one Chuck posted pics of here in this thread is a 70. Black was available in 71 but not in 1970. According to Chuck, black could be special ordered on a 70 Z but I've never seen or heard of one until Chuck posted these pics. Chuck seems to know a lot about second gen Camaros so I guess I'll have to assume that he's correct about being able to special order black in 1970. I've learned something this week...

The window sticker on the 70 Z specifies special paint. Marty's car is a true time capsule. Black on any car makes it look nasty.

Since black was taboo enough back in the day to warrant special order, and with the price that original Fathom Green 69 fetched at BJ..you really have to wonder what this car is valued at currentely

Black was taboo? First I've ever heard that http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif Probably wasn't the most popular color, but I don't recall it being terribly unusual.

-----I dont think black was especially taboo. I believe that GM was having problems with application as regards quality and therefore made it difficult for all but the most persistent of purchasers. I bought a 73 Z28 from the original owner in about 1975. he tried like crazy to get a black one and ended up ordering dark green and having the car painted at the dealership shortly after purchase. I think he may have been dealing with under-experienced people at this particular dealer and probably could have ordered a -- paint color had they tried a bit harder.
-----I also had a friend who owned a fairly big used car operation in Hyannis Ma. that ordered a couple of primer Corvettes a year for two or three years running in 70 thru 72 era and painted them all black upon arrival. Sold like hot-cakes!!! .......Bill S

I didn't view the auctions, but the Norwood cars had the red oxide primer, and the Van Nuys cars did not use it for some reason and were black. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

The 71 Camaro on Ebay appears to be undercoated... If you look close at the pics you can see red oxide where the undercoating is rubbed off.

Absolutely correct, Bill. I personally know of two 73 Z28's that were special ordered black from the factory, and I think Dennis Cumby has a friend who ordered one new and still has it. My friend Rick, who ordered one of the two 73 Z's that I know of, had previously ordered a new 70 Camaro L78 in black, but gave up waiting and bought a Forest green 70 Nova L78 instead.

Notice how Frank's transmission tunnel is factory undercoated, which is not found on Norwood 70's........

My thanks to Frank A for sharing his EXCELLENT 70 Z with everyone at this past summers ACA Camaros at Carlisle show.
On Sunday morning the hoist was available and a few of us took pics of the ORIGINAL L.A undercarriage. For anyone curious, yes Frank did refinish the subframe.
This is another reason why Carlisle is the premier judged show for Camaros whether restored, survivor, custom, etc
