I have a large collection of magazines. What dates do you need?

I had to kind of laugh when I saw this. I owned a business that dealt in automotive literature for over ten years known as Auto Know here in the Detroit area.
A large part of my business dealt in buying and selling back issue car magazines. I closed the business when I starrted working for Championship Auto Shows, Inc. but being the consummate collector, I never liquidated my inventory.
Bottom line; I have (literally) well over 100,000 car magazines, and many are right here in my basement sorted by make, month and year.
Although I do not currently have any "prime year" issues of SS/DI as I was always able to sell them as fast as I took them in, I do have thousands of other titles.
In addition, being the collector that I am...I have several thousand in my own "personal" collection.
If anyone is looking for a back issue, let me know. If you are a sYc member, I will offer any magazines in my inventory to you FREE if you cover the shipping or I will personally deliver them to the Vettefest shows or an Autorama or World of Wheels show if I am there.
BTW; if it is a "newer" issue of S/S, meaning late 70's or newer, I may have it.
Thanks/BA

SS&DI was the best. They were testing the ZL1 Camaros and Yenko 427s when no one else knew that they even existed. June, July, and August 1969 are the ones to get. When the new models came out in the fall, Saturday Evening Post had some great 2 page ads for the new cars. I have 40 years worth of magazines in our attic. I'll have to sort them out now that I am retiring. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yeah, they are awesome indeed.
And speaking of Original Ads...that was the main part of the business and I have several hundred thousand of those too, filed by make/model/year. All kinds of muscle ads. See the Nickey site for a few that I supplied to Stefano and Jay.
Any "special requests?" I will deliver to Vettefest next weekend but need to know by Monday as I will be driving out in the company truck

Wow Bob...what an offer.
Too bad I can't remember which issue or which year....(81 I think?) of the Super Chevy and/or Car Craft that dealt with the Devonshire Downs show that my step brother sold his real Chevy crossram intake and blueprints at...it made it into the first few paragraphs of the article. I'd love to have that one...I inadvertently threw it away during a move...or at least I think that I did? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I have a bunch that I bought from a fellow years ago, I loaded them in my car and nearly broke the suspension. Your collection must weigh tons......
Car Life is a good publication. See you at the Vettefest.

OK Bruce, decided to take a break from all my Vettefest work to go play in the basement for a while. Went through all the 81 Super Chevy's and dont see what you are looking for. Can you be more specific or maybe do you remember what was on the cover?
I have every 1981 issue of SC and every 81 issue of Car Craft, so it is probably in there somewhere. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif
I DID, however, find some "special presents" for Charlie and Dave C. and for someone with an Orange Yenko Camaro (formerly owned by Marc McCartney). Is there a member who owns this car now?
Also will be bringing one with a neat feature article on a Yenko Turbo Z.
Now....back to work. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

Bob,
It would most likely have been Car Craft '81 or early 82...showing the Street Machine Nationals West at Devonshire Downs. Or was it the '79 Street Machine Nationals West? Can you check Car Craft for '79 for me when you get some time (Street Machine Nationals West)?
There's also a Super CHevy within 6 months of that that had a red 67 RS/SS 396 Convertible on the cover...I believe it was owned by a guy with the last name of King?
I appreciate anything that you can discover... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif
Like I said...don't worry about it now...you've got enought to worry about http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

BINGO! I found a mint issue of SC with the 67 RS/SS Convert on the cover and inside with a sweet 2-page spread which is indeed owned by Dan King. This is a classic issue of SC, cuz inside is a 2-page color ad for the Dodge Charger 2.2! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif
I am sure I can locate the CC with the new clues you gave me. Will deliver to Vettefest.
BTW; are you anywhere near Lake Havasu City?
Thanks/BA

Wow...Thanks Bob! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif I was able to get Mr. King into the Street Machine Nationals West for free, via the placard that you put inside your car...explaining what the car was...he ended up asking for a "new" one after he got inside...he told the show that he "lost" it http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif. I know...I know...it wasn't right, but it was a really cool Camaro...with a cool owner and a fascinating story and we displayed side by side...him, in his Camaro...and me in my bro Gary's RS/SS! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I'm not near Lake Havasu city...but Stuart Adams is...whaddya need? I could always take a drive out there... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Bob,
If you have any Sports Car Graphic magazine issues, I am desperately looking for a 1971 issue, that has the indepth road test for a 1971 LS6 Corvette. I do not know which months issue it was, however I know it wasn't April 1971. I suspect it was May thru July, however I do not know for sure. Any help in this matter would GREATLY appreciated. I would be more than happy to buy it from you.
Thanks, Warren
I have the March 1970 issue of SCG featuring the 1970 LS-7 Corvette road test.
They claim it is an auhthentic 1 of 1 mule.
I can post pics if you like.

Rick,
Thanks, I have that issue, pretting interesting story about the LS7 option for the 1970 Corvette. Paul Van Valkenburg was a Chevrolet engineer and his book he wrote about Chevrolet Racing? is pretty neat.
There were 7 LS7 engines shipped from Tonawanda to Chevrolet Engineering in Warren, MI. Five of these were returned. Terry McManmon, an NCRS '70 to '72 expert asked Duntov one time, if all the test mule LS7 cars were destroyed. Duntov just smiled, and replied that he personally signed the destruct order for these cars.
Yeah..it's a very cool read.

Didn't they blow the motor on that car during the test?

No. The article talks about Pauls trip back to Detroit from Riverside, Ca where it was tested. The author tells what it was like driving this beast all the way to Detroit,MI.
