WOW!!! What a fun weekend. A big THANK YOU to Bob, Tom and the whole Vettefest crew for making it all possible. To show how professional they are, Friday’s move-in had a few glitches, so most of us out of towners were dreading Sunday evening’s move out. Boy, were we in for a surprise, as everything went as smooth as silk. Great job guys!! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif

Steve and the guys at Nickey Chicago deserve a big THANK YOU as well, for what they do to help with the show, including displaying some really neat cars. Always neat to visit with former employees of Nickey, and everyone’s favorite TV star, Dennis Gage from My Classic Car. Thanks!!! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

What a turnout of sYc cars, with 40+. Show goers were blown away by not only the number of cars, but also the quality. Club members took home two Top Guns, at least one Triple Crown plus several Gold and Silver Spinners. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

To top it off, the sYc was awarded the Outstanding Display award. Thanks to all who showed a car(s) in one of our displays, with a special thank you to Helen Gibb, Ken Barnhart and the SCW for adding something a little extra. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

In conclusion, there is one more person I need to acknowledge, the late Dennis Hartweg. Having a club display at each Chevy/Vettefest, featuring “dealer prepped” cars was his idea. The sYc is only doing our best to keep his dream alive. Because Dennis was so into Gibb cars, I thought it was fitting that one of Dennis’ cars, Tommy K’s Gibb/Harrell Nova, as well as the “First Lady of the Supercar World”, Helen Gibb and her Nova, were featured in the Vettefest media guide and were front and center at the show. Even though Dennis is no longer with us, his spirit and love for the supercar hobby will always live on within the sYc.

One of the special displays, and I believe a Triple Crown award for the Corvette.

Yes, I forgot to thank the Nickey boys. Thanks for bringing that great '65 Corvette, it's keeping me awake nights.

Tom,
Thank you for those words. You know Dennis and I were close friends and I'm sure he's very proud of how things have progressed. I couldn't think of a better person to represent Dennis' cars than Tommy Kusmiesz. Just an all-around Great individual, and a true Ambassador for our hobby. I'm very proud to call Tommy a personal friend as well.
We'll do our best to make you proud Dennis Hartweg! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

Dennis was in fact a true hobbiest and friend. He made me feel very welcome and did his best to help me on several occassions.

Ok so I am biased but have said it before. In addition to all that Dennis has done for the hobby and research with the help of many people I also want to once again publically thank Annie for her continuation of his efforts. She has made it a point to keep up with the research he started and promote the Gibb/Harrell name and is still working deligently today on it. She has spent countless hours in her office going through everything and continuing to try and put the puzzles together. At SCR8, her race in the Nova against Jeff's ZL-1 really hit home with her and gave her even more incentive to continue with Dennis's dream. I don't think he will ever be forgotten. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif

That was a cool moment! I just wish I hadn't broken the car - we could have kept going all afternoon. I'm glad that little trip down the lanes had as much of an impact on young Annie as it had on me. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

I came onto this board after Dennis passed away...but after talking with Dennis Cumby, Ken B., Kim Howie and Annie herself...I understand a little bit of what kind of person Dennis was. I am honored to know Dennis Cumby, Ken, Rick, Kim, Annie and all of the SYC people that have made me feel welcome on this site

I believe that Dennis Hartweg "got it" http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif
