View Full Version : 427 gm airplane block
time to change subject.
The original owner of my factory ordered 68 Camaro L78 black on black m22 488s.
worked at the time for GM as a enjineere. He as on the team that was developing the NASCAR motor. He told me that GM
gave him several 427 BLOCKs to try out in my 68 Camaro that were made for aircraft. This block was thicker walled than the regular 427.(Ran cooler).<he also told me that some of these blocks got out onto the production line and gave GM much trouble. Has anybody ever heard of this happening??
I Know that this guy is a respected drag racing legend

I don't know anything about airplanes, but that sounds like a very heavy proposition?
Have you ever seen an enjine on a BEAVER its heavy for a single enjine bush plane yet I think they built over one thousand of them.
lots of moose hunters know.

there was a replica P-51 at Sun-n-Fun last year with a big block chevy 502 in it. I think it was a 7/8 scale and it sounded pretty good. The guy who flew it seemed happy with it's performance....here is a link:

Let's see: A 70% scale big block powered P-51D. How do you say sweet? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif
Now this is the only 427 powered Mustang I'd care to see.
Hell, it would be a blast to fly too! Awesome! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif

Navy Test Pilot School (NAS Patuxent River, MD) keeps (kept) a Beaver in its inventory as one of the many different types of planes for studs to experience. Not very pretty. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
