Dan Vasic (Postsedan) provided this info to me awhile back

"Sam,

SMS Interiors out of Oregon makes the door panels...very expensive. You`ll pay $800 just for 2 door panels....but man are they nice. You`ll also have to wait anywhere from 9 to 12 months for them to be made. Call me tomorrow at the shop and I`ll get you there phone number. (847)301-1100

Dan. "

Hi Bob, good to see you on here pal.

Were all those recent emails and pictures of help to you?

First of all, don't worry about the colour of the panels as SMS will put new cardboard and black fabric on them for you.

The important thing is to have the steal frames as that's all they need to work from. I just put the new front panels on my car last month that SMS did for me (pic attached). I ended up buying and using a set of front panels from a 1972 Skylark two door post that Dan Vasic advised me of on Ebay. I can't say for sure, but probably any A-Body two door post between 1968 and 1972 would work for the fronts. Again, the key is the top metal frame. This was the end of a six year quest for me.

For the back ones the opportunities thin out. Probably need a 68 or 69 Chevelle Post Car as a donor due to the window line and the difference in the inside where they flair out over the back seat. SMS are currently doing a set of rear ones for me as well. I found one rear panel in a salvage yard in North Carolina and SMS should be able to do a "mirror fabrication" of the steel for the other side. Not sure when they will be done.

The ones taken off my car were actually in pretty good shape with the exception of the chrome peeling off the moldings. I would love to be able to offer them to you, but I'm hesitant as they are just impossible to find and who knows if I'll ever need to redo them for my car in the future just in case. I'll keep you posted on that.

Good luck my friend. If I can be of any further help just yell.

Since buying our 300 Deluxe SS396 in 1997, I have yet to see door pads for these for sale in any condition. It's nice to see someone finally doing new ones. We got the embossed insert material to repair our seats from SMS Auto Fabrics in Portland, Oregon. They were excellent to deal with. Is this the same company?

Yes Keith, SMS Auto Fabrics (http://www.smsautofabrics.com).

I've been referring fellow 300 owners to them ever since you put me on to them back in 2000. Finally able to utilize their services myself. I was leary about sending my current panels to them for refinishing due to cross border shipping and possible loss, etc., thus I wanted to find an additional set.

One footnote Bob regarding the front panel metal frames - if you use a 68 you will likely need to drill a new hole for the lock knob as they were farther to the rear on a 68 vis a vis 69-72.

Bob,

Was your 69 Post Sedan purchased from Ken Seggie?

Jump in Don.

Dan, I think it's best that Bob relay his car information if he is so inclined. Seems to be the proper approach for all concerned.

BTW Dan, did you get that early Christmas DVD last month? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hi Don , I'm lucky that I have the original rear panels in there now. SMC got back to me and there sending the fabric samples for the seats out this week. I didn't know that they did the door panels as well. I'll have to chek the SS door panels on there now and see if I could use them for the frames. You guys have all been so much help. Don I don't know if you know Len Dempsey in Victoria, but he has a 69 300 deluxe , butternut car , all original except maybe the seats, but he seems to think those are the originals. I looked at the car last spring and he gave me Keith's name as well as someone to talk to . Now his seats looked so different than yours and now even Keiths are a little different. Don what's your trim code ? Keiths , Lens and mine are all the same, trim code 752. Thx Bob

Yes that was the car Ken Seggie had back in the spring. The car is originally from the Moncton N.B. area and from 1985 until 2006 was owned by a guy who lived 1/2 hr from where I grew up in the Maritimes.

Bob,

Only 3 colors and two different patterns were available for the base line 300 Deluxe interior.

Black cloth
Black vinyl
Blue cloth
Green cloth

The black cloth being the rarest.

OK Bob, you really want to test this old guy's brain http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hmmm.gif

I believe that Yellow car in BC used to be in Ontario and I think Keith and I saw it at the Oshawa Autofest years ago.

Unfortunately there is very little information available on interior codes for the 69 300's. A few of my source books are way out in left field and don't even show the correct code numbers. One source I have appears to be the most accurate that I've seen and I'll give you the breakdown below. I have never seen a full 69 Dealer Album which might help us here.

Black seems to be very well defined:
751 - Cloth.
752 - Vinyl.

Blue is a bit of a mystery. I have seen Blue in both Cloth and Vinyl. My source gives the wording for Blue as "both" while the Black above has the wording "seggregated" for each (does that make sense?). Seems to be the same Blue code for both - 760.

Green also appears to be well defined:
786 - Cloth.

Mine is 752 by the way.

Also, the seat stripes can be a bit confusing as well. I believe all the vinyl covers got them, while I've seen cloth covers with and without them. Perhaps it is due to some having new covers made and they either included or removed the stripes http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

The next three posts will have pictures of three different Blue interiors lending more confusion.

Here is a picture of Blue Cloth. Can't say if it is the correct material. Notice no stripes.

Here is another Blue interior. Don't know if this is in fact vinyl or cloth. In any event, it is not the correct pattern for either. This one has stripes.

Although the picture is small, this one has the same vinyl fabric as mine in Blue. It also has stripes.

I may have to correct myself in regards to picture two above. I just looked at a picture of Greg Cullum's interior and, although Black, it appears to have the same fabric design as that Blue one.

Dan - is Greg's interior cloth or vinyl? Appears to be cloth.

I have a May 1981 Chevelle-Monte Carlo Parts catalogue #P014.
Series 133-134, Models 27-37-69
757 (US trim only) black vinyl trim
752 black vinyl trim
751 black cloth and vinyl
760 blue cloth and vinyl
786 medium green cloth and vinyl

133-134 series 35-36-46-80 (US imports)
752 black vinyl
761 blue vinyl
773 saddle vinyl

It appears from this that the all vinyl 300 Deluxe interior only came in black in the 27,37 and 69 models.

Clear as mud?

Don,

Picture #1 is incorrect.

Picture #2 is correct. I`m very famialer with this 300 Deluxe. I grew up with this car in my neighborhood. This car started the whole 300 Deluxe frenzy. As mr70...would say..."It`s good to see old friends"..."I havn`t seen her since June of 2005, when she was last for sale in Indiana." She now lives in Florida.

Picture #3 appears correct....however I would need your eye glass`s to be for sure http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

Blue is only cloth
Green is only cloth

Don if you say you have seen both vinyl and cloth for both blue and green...then I would say that they were refitted, and not originals.

Both of my cars are Blue cloth and Green cloth.

All front and rear seats had the famous stripes. Black vinyl or cloth got the white stipes, blue got blue stipes and green got green stripes.

Don...Greg`s Yellow Post Sedan has the Black cloth...very rare.

Keith,

"It appears from this that the all vinyl 300 Deluxe interior only came in black in the 27,37 and 69 models."

This statement is incorrect.

Thanks a lot Dan http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hmmm.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hmmm.gif

The new owner of the "picture 2" car has been communicating with me since he purchased it Dan. Latest emails were last week as he is now trying to address the interior, particularly the door panels. After reviewing Greg's picture I would agree "my picture 2" seats are correct (as per my original disclaimer).

If there were in fact no "Blue vinyl" seat inserts, I guess the two I have seen would have been recovered.

My mind is worn out, I need a vacation http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Boys , I'm on information Overload !!Thats great stuff, you right , It's as clear as mud. Don knowing yours is a 752 code as well helps and Len's car in BC threw me a bit. I believe your right to as Len said he use to live in the TO area and that Keith had seen his car in a local show. I'm just waiting for SMC's package to arrive and hope they have the same material. I'll need enough for both the front and back benches . any Idea on how much material I'll need to order ? Thx Bob
