On 2-23-77 my dad ordered a 1977 Z/28. He took posession on 5-20-77. The car was black on black with the orange and red stripes. The only options on the car were tinted glass, console, posi rear, AM radio and HD radiator. It had the LM1 350 and M-21 close ratio 4 speed. The VIN of the car is 1Q87L7L612296. The car was sold around 1980 to an airman who was stationed at Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha NE. The gentleman was from Texas. Any help in locating this car is GREATLY appreciated.

I found it!! I spoke with the owners brother. The car has been unregistered sitting in a shop since '88. The milage is believed to be in the 30k's. The car is modified (engine, wheels and a hoodscoop). I'll be calling him tonight to see if it can be bought. Part of me says probably not since he has had it so long but the other side of me says maybe since it has been sitting since '88. Wish me luck!!
Special thanks to Steve from this site, he got me my lead which led to the car.
Congrats & keep us posted. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Well I spoke with the owner tonight. The car is sitting in his shed, pretty much were it has been the whole time he has owned it. The car still has it's original paint and interior. There is minor rust in the quarters and the lower fenders. The hood was cut for clearance and a hoodscoop. The original engine is gone but he did say he would call his friend and see if he still has it. The original wheels are still on the front, Keystone Classics on the rear. He does have the original wheels for the rear. The interior needs some minor work (how minor , I didn't ask??). He did say it is road worthy and he wouldn't hesitate to drive it to Omaha or Lincoln.
So the thousand dollar question everyone is wondering, is it for sale? He said maybe, he'll think about it for a few days. I caught him off guard and he hadn't thought of selling it. I think he realizes it's been sitting this long and he hasn't gotten to redoing it and probably won't. He said he'll call in a few days but if I don't hear from him within a week or so to call back since he probably got sidetracked.
He did want to try and determine what it is worth. Excluding the sentimental value it shouldn't be too much. Not numbers matching, needs rust repair and a hood plus some interior work and the windshield is cracked.
Hopefully the price is affordable and fair so I can bring her home. I can feel the excitement in dads voice.

Does your father have any of the original paperwork or pictures of it when it was new?

Mom found the paperwork from when dad ordered it. It is a form filled out by hand. The funny thing is he ordered body side molding but the car didn't get it. He also originally wrote white for the color but then scratched it out and wrote black above it. She also has the financing papers, a partial copy of the window sticker, a lifetime lube certificate from H&H Chevrolet in Omaha (where he ordered it). The papers are there for the trade in and final purchase price. I do have some of the pictures from when the car was basically new. I've tried to take pictures of them to post but it didn't turn out. I'll have to try and find someone with a scanner.

Based on my call sign you can see I like this year Camaro. Regarding value based on the condition you described I would say between $1,500 and $3,000. Decent driver cars which are #'s matching are going for close to $10k and really nice low-milage cars $15k or more.
That is great that you found the car. You rarely see these cars at shows, I feel they are unique and worthy of saving.
I had a friend in HS who had a black on black 77 Z28 and it was a beautiful car, great color combo.
Best of luck with possible purchase.

I'm hoping to get into the car for around $3,000. It's hard to say because I am going off a vebal description until I can get out to see it.
As for the trade in vehicle it was a '73 Dodge Charger SE with a 318. The car was black on black with the orange and red strobe stripe on the side. Dad put a set of 5 slots on it. The VIN is WL21G3GZ11672. I find it amusing that the Camaro was ordered in the same colors as the Charger.
H&H is still in business and they have a big Chevy show every summer. There are around 500 cars. Dad and I go every year with the Nova and Chevelle. It would be fun to walk into the service drive and pop out the certificate just to see what they would say.

Yes he bought it back in 2006. He said as much in the thread that you started:

As Tracker said yes I did get it back. I wish I had some amazing update on the restoration but that is not the case. Kids and life keep demanding my attention so the car is patiently waiting its rebirth.
