I like the retro retro Challenger better, but will still want to take one out for a test drive.

I've been a 100% Chevrolet fan my entire life, but based strictly on the photos, and never seeing either car in person, the Challenger styling sends the Camaro to the back lot. GM just plain missed the mark.

I'm not in the habit of buying new cars, but the Challenger has me thinking http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif . New Camaro is an interesting design. In my opinion has no retro cues and does not get me excited. Looks more like the new Corvettes (which is not a bad thing, BTW). I finally saw the Challenger for the first time in person a couple days ago at the Phoenix International Car Show and was duly impressed. My observations:
1. Altho, not much bigger than what I envisioned, it is hard to consider this a pony car by today's standards. Could stand to go on a diet both visually and weight-wise. Well north of 4K lbs from what I understand.
2. fit and finish was terrific - not getting my hopes up that DC will continue that trend in production.
3. Nose and tail views of this car are wonderful. Definitely emotion evoking. Coke bottle flanks ain't nothing to sneeze at.
4. Side marker lights are flush and appear to be seamless with body panels. Very nice. Not sure that will make it to production.
5. Rear flank "Challenger" call outs are 3D individual letters not a sticker (that's good), but don't like the placement of moniker. Should be on the nose or tail if 3D letters are used. Doesn't look aerodynamic.
6. Front wheels are 20" and rears are 21". Actually am not a big fan of big wheels (exception being the plastic tricycles of yesteryear!) but these look good. Wheel wells are really filled up. Probably will be down-sized to 18/19 or such.
7. Ram emblem on beak looks lame. Reminds me of Dodge Ram TRUCKS!
All in all a nice job of straddling retro with modern. VERY VERY agressive looking muscle car. Expect good things for the Dodge Bros. Good job DC! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

my wife really likes the new camaro, and we were planning to try for 2010, a first brand new car. but has things go my job has taken a dive, and 1/3 pay cut. so no new car if this does lift by spring.

At the Unveiling in Cleveland, Scott Settlemire put us on a list so we will have one of the first ones. We really liked the looks of it. We might have to paint it ORANGE!!! lol

I saw the new Camaro at Carlisle, and I would not even think about buying one based on what it looked like. It is about as "retro" as my foot, and GM missed the mark by a large margin. I have had nothing but Chevrolet products all of my life, but I would also go for the Challenger instead. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Where are they going to go with the styling of the Challenger ? they can't do anything to it...make a retro Cordoba ? Camaro has some years in it...retro is fine up to a point.

I've been a faithful GM guy all my life. I think the new Camaro looks like a cross between a Cadillac and... a Mustang??? That bulge along the base of the doors and in front of the rear wheels is TOTALLY a Mustang trait!
I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm all-over the Challenger!

Jeff just sent me this, seems Belair went out to visit with him last week..
I will be lining up as soon as the new camaro is possible to order.
They can do whatever they want with the challenger, and mustang, but they wont ever be able to touch the Camaro, and GM aftermarket/performance wise, and especially performance wise.
With the LS- engines there is so much you can do, and so much being done, relatively cheap, so i'll stick to the Camaro and outrun all the others..

That won't change the styling issues. The sad truth is, GM seems to be confused about what the public wants, while Ford & DC are getting a handle on things.
In the end, it's just a matter of personal taste. I like the new Mustang; I like the new Challenger. I don't like the new Camaro.
Turbo Regal
11-30-2006, 09:20 PM
If it performs as well as the '02 Camaro SS, I would definitely consider it.
I know that tastes are personal, but I keep reading criticism of the styling and that people wish it was more like a 69 Camaro. It seems that too retro puts GM in a corner to what the next model will look like. (70 Camaro?)
The new Vette ZO6 doesn't look like any previous Corvette but outperforms them all and doesn't seem to lack for buyers.

[/ QUOTE ] With all do respects Bobby that car looks terrible to me. Not sure if it is a Vette or does it want to be a Caddy? I am just an old fart that doesn't appreciate Pro Touring or Retro. That is why my kids pick on me. I am outdated! So....I guess Chevy can keep that camaro in my opinion. Hopefully for Chevy it will do better than the GTO did. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif I agree with Cumby.

I am not sure I like the looks of it either..........but when they changed the appearance of the Camaro in 1998 I said, I'll never own one of those. They got Toyota headlights and a great big mouth ! !
Now look what I own............ http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

I really do not know what the heck GM is doing I hate the new Vette ZO6
And what I have seen on the new Camaro it not much better
The GTO was not a big seller And when Chrysler came out with a four door
Charger What was the thinking there The Chargers front end looks mean and than
It fall’s off The new Challenger if they keep it this way is the first new muscle car
That has got my eye Now lets see if Chrysler messes it up
My whole family had Chevys Till the 2000 model year was bad Wife had a 2000 Chevy Lumina , hit 34,000 miles and the trans go’s out the seat broke and the radio went out all in one day Took it to the Dealership were we bought it and was told the warranty went
Out last week. We also had two 2000 Pontiac Grand Am’s V6 That became fix and repair every week Gm quality is not as good as it use to be Ended up trading the Lumina in on a jeep Grand Cherokee had good luck with it Now I have four Grand Cherokee’s
In my family Boy I do not miss working every weekend on the Grand Am’s
The point is For some reason Gm thinks they still king When there was talk about the GTO coming out I was real excited I test drove one and for a daily driver it did not
Meet my needs so I ended up with a Grand Cherokee for my daily driver
If that Challenger come out as we see it now I just might get one but will keep the Jeep as a daily driver

I like the new Camaro in pictures, but it doesn't look as nice in person...a nice big motor +500hp very much helps the cause for me...I would have loved to have boughten a new factory 427 Camaro back in the day, but couldn't due to obvious reasons, so now is my chance...

I took the 05 stang GT to the track a few weeks back. My buddy has one of those new Grand Cherokee SRT 4 door SUV's. My best time was 13.80, He beat me every race, ran consistent 13.40's and a best of 13:32! Everyone's jaw dropped when they saw a 4 door suv whip up on my new stang. Both vehicles stock. He was beat by a new GTO though. It was all souped up, and computer laptop tuned. Ran low 12's.

The cool thing about the new Chevys is the LS engines. At SEMA there GM had a Denali sitting there with a Supercharged LS engine and it sat low enough on the engine it looked like it would fit on just about anything with a LS engine in it. Looks to me it will be easy to have a 600 plus hp new Camaro once all these cool parts get out there. And there is a ton of aftermarket stuff being built for LS engines... They are killer engines that hold up well and get good gas mileage.

I'm with Charlie here. If I want a 69 Camaro to be my everyday driver I would build a Restomod.
I hope that todays youth would want to own one and do the mods like we did. The LS engines give them something GM to hop up besides imports and hopefully make a customer for life. I didn't fall in love with Camaros, Chevelles, Shelby's or Cudas when I was 40, I fell in love with them when I was 14. My son is 17 and when we went looking for a car for him last year we didn't visit or consider any GM product. We looked at several imports and ended up with a Mustang. I love that GT Mustang commercial where the father and son do a burnout then stop and say how fun it was and do another. My son and his car buddies can't wait for the new Camaro and are already talking about what engines will be available. I can't wait to take him down to the Chevy dealership and get him his own GM performance catalog.

So what you're both saying is...What is old is new again. We will have come full circle.
When I am at Pavillions...I go over to the import area and check out all the cars there...after all, these kids are doing exactly what we did when we were younger...just with different engines and equipment. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

About the time the "new" camaro comes out will be when my daughter will be driving so I am very interested in looking at it for my next car. However, I will not buy within the first year if it is anything like the prices of Mustangs in the first year with sticker and higher price tag take it or leave it mentality. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif
Chevrolet will have to price it right in line with the Mustang to be competive and advertise it. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/scholar.gif
While I have not seen the concept cars in person, one thing is for sure they will be messaging the final production car considerably over what we see now. Can't see 22" wheels on V6 model at 20k.
The Hot Rod magazine article had me pretty excited with questions to readers about what they wanted in new camaro. I hope Chevy stays true to 1969 in terms of offering SS, RS, & Z28. If so make mine a SS/RS with 400hp LS motor. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif

From a inside source.. 6 cyl and SS will be amoung the first then the Hi-Po version will be the Z28 because of so many other models using the SS name... No covert at first either... I personally like the car, on another note they are currently selling a real nice die-cast of the concept in silver or red..

I am going to wait until grandpa sells his new caddy, the camaro looks like the same person made it to me. it looks like its all made of plastic, but you know it will grow on you after its out for a while. The challenger is a much better looking car at first glance, i think they will sell very well, That car i may buy

It does not look retro, looks like it was designed by Cadillac. The car is ugly and I say Chevrolet will put the LS7 in it, to try and salvage the project.

One of our club members took out the New vette for a test drive Came back to the dealership minis the top That one came off easy she said it just blew off on the expressway Love to know what the engineering
Thought went in to it As for The Grand Cherokee SRT it is as arrow dramatic as a
Heavy brick Show what brute H/p can do
I know I am old school There is nothing finer that the 60s muscle cars
Of all the vettes today I still love the C-2 s the best
Yea I know the new ones handle better and are fast but I just don’t get excited as I do with the older ones.
The new Challenger is the first time I seem to interest me The only problem is I was at the Dealership today to get some parts Talked to the owner about the Challenger and he was told by DC that the
Challenger is a concept car and will most likely never be built for production
