Check 'em out, a buddy of John's ran across these articles from back in the day...I'll let John fill in the details, but some neat old iron in the shots...

Thanks Rob:
This was from back in the day, when rock and roll radio stations in San Francisco and elsewhere gave away cars to get listeners. That's me, on the left, with my hand on the hood of the GTO. One was a 4 speed car, and the other an automatic. We used them for about a year and then traded them in for two 67 Barracudas with 340's. I like the Cuda's better than the GTO's because they didn't overheat and were a lot lighter. The other picture has all the contest cars from a KFRC station promotion. I don't remember which engines the car's had but I do remember that one of the DJ's, perhaps the guy with his hand on the Jag's hood, wrecked the XKE before it was given away. The general manager was understandably pissed because he had to pay for a new car.
I think all the rides were small blocks, except for the Dodge which had a 383. But I could be wrong.
John
Really cool period pic.
Is that Alcatraz in the background?

The first picture, with the two GTO's, was taken in front of the Palace of Fine Arts, in the Marina District. The second picture was taken from the Golden Gate Bridge view area, north of the span, in Marin County, looking back at the City. I don't think you can see Alcatraz, but if it's there, it would be in the far left of the pic.
Oh, and the station call letters, KFRC, to those of us working there, stood for, "Keep Forever Running Contests"!
