I am no expert, (never paid for my opinion) but if the description is correct sounds like a keeper! Great presentation by seller, leaving no room for questions. I think I would buy this car unseen. Looks like original motor. I should say too that he mentions front suspension rebuild and paint/detailing to subframe. I do not know for sure but this may knock it out of Legends class for judging???

Looks like a nice one John, but I bet it's gonna be expensive http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
I was reading the questions to the seller. He says he isn't sure if it had the charcol canister from the factory. I think all the Los built ones that were to be sold out west had the canister and the 4489 carb with the vent hose on the front bowl. Also the heat shield. Can anyone comfirm this, or was it only for Calif sold cars?
Sure is a good looking car.

Tony, That was me asking those questions, I believe the 4489 and the charcoal canister were for cars sold and delivered in California only, like mine and yours. If this is not the case I'm sure we will find out quickly. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I spoke with the seller today and he seems like a nice guy and a straight shooter. He put the smog stuff on the car etc. as it was MIA. I'm pretty sure the charcoal canister was for CA delivered cars only. Reserve is $60K.

I believe that cars only sold in CA got the charcoal canister and the 4489 Holley carb. They could build cars in CA and ship them to other states, then the CA emissions were not required which the canister was part of(RPO code NA9) My 70 Z was build in LA and delivered new to Alameda Calf, so my car has the canister and the 4489 carb. Hope this clears things up.

I have about 40 pictures of this car from the last time it was up for sale which I believe was about a year ago. The pictures I have show the engine when it did not have the smog system. The speedo picture I have shows 49,118 on the odometer so this car hasn't moved much.
I also have a good picture of the VIN stamp on the pad and if I remember correctly it was a major discussion point because the first number looked like a 7 instead of a 1.
I for one do not believe the story about using a broken seven as a one.
Here's the picture I have of the pad. You be the judge.

My LA built '70 LS6 had a 7 instead of a 1 and I believe this topic was discussed somewhere before...it is seen on some LA cars, but I have no idea why??? I've never seen the large and small font mix on any car before though.

My Van Nuys stampings look near identical to this Z28's...
I'm surprised no one else brought up the build sheet... one of them looks very faint to me...
It was sold new in the state of Missouri,so NA-9 was not necesary when it was Built at Van Nuys.
It does show an NA-9 provisional on the buildsheet, which was typical.
Nice Car!

Dan,
I remember your VIN stamp having a larger 7 but what about the one (1) at the beginning of the stamp? Was it curved like this one?

It looks like Van Nuys had a several different styles of stamps. My '70 Z has a small seven and a large three in the VIN pad stamp.....identical on the transmission. Look at the two different fours in the same VIN in MosportGreen66's stamp.

If you look at the pics in the link the seller provides. There may be some rust issues, look at quarter seam with rocker panel on the driver side. If i am going to spend that kind of money it better be perfect. Just my personal opinion. Roger

Here is the VIN stamp on the TH400 trans for my 70 Z-28. It appears to be stamped at an angle and is very close to MosportGreen66's car at 0L510574. You can see that the last 5 was larger that the rest.

It is a very nice car with some docs as well but from what I saw in all of his pics and the ones I have from the previous time this car was for sale, $60K was a little steep IMO.

I was planning to go on wed. to buy it. Was getting things in order to say sold. Very unlike me not to pull the trigger. I think it was a good car, and maybe a little pricey but i want one like that. Good colors, RS, 4spd, #s and paperwork.
ANYBODY WANT TO SELL ME THEIRS???????????????
Kenny Pascoe, how about finding me a goood one.
