Today, our local car club, Golden Gate Street Machines Unlimited, is doing something I encourage everyone to do, help some people who, through no fault of their own, need help this holiday season. I tell you this not to pat myself, or ourselves, on the back, but to remind us that we are very fortunate in this world.
In a few hours, several dozen of us will drive our vehicles to a member's warehouse and stock up on more than 3-thousand dollars worth of donated toys and food vouchers. Then, we will caravan a short distance to the local Ronald McDonald House and give those toys and food vouchers to the children and family members who will have a Christmas many of us are fortunate enough not to have experienced. One of the club members, dressed like Santa Claus, spends a good part of the afternoon giving out presents to all who ask. Some of the kids want rides in our cars. Many are too weak to ask.
There are plenty of other worthy organizations out there that need our help. Local nursing homes with seniors who have no family. Here, in the Bay Area, there are several local veterans hospitals with severely ill men and women who love reading our old muscle car magazines or just want to talk to someone who is interested in listening. The smile and thanks you get from someone in need is always the best gift anyone can receive this holiday season. Thanks for considering this note and Happy Holidays to all.
