"Tom Hoover" from page 3 must have been THE T.H. aka Mr. Hemi. He also was in charge of Chrysler's Maximum Performance Engine Package program in the early 60's aka "max wedge". Just terrific vintage photos - THANKS!

The picturs of the 70 442 on page 7 rang a bell. I moved to Winnipeg in Mar 77 just as the track was closing (they knew I was coming). Later that year I bough a new Cutlass Supreme from Holiday Chev Olds and the dealer principal was Sherrol Haddad. Sherrol later mover to Vancouver and ran Flag Chev Olds in Surrey and that dealer is still there today. Sherrol became involved in IROC racing in the 80's and was a regular driver with guys like Ron Fellows.
Now about the 442.
Around 1985 I spotted a white with red stripes 70 442 parked at the maintaince hanger at Canadian Pacific Airlines in Richmond BC. I spoke with the owner and he said the car was a factory race car (yeah right I thought). The car is still around in BC somewhere and I believe I heard about it just a few years ago. Got to be the same car.

Sam,
I'm pretty certain that they are NOT one and the same. I believe the drag racing Tom Hoover was from Minnesota, and raced actively well into the 1980's.

Tom Hoover and his dad were in fact from Minnesota. It was a long time ago but I thought he was in fact known as Mr. Hemi. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Tom Hoover (http://www.mopar.com/muscle/profiles1000.htm) was an engineer with Chrysler and was part of the group of C. Engineers that put together the "Ramchargers" racing team. So it was logical to me that this may be the same fella. Also, photos in this thread mention that he was running a Chryler product motor in his car

Tom Hoover from Minn. drove a funny car into the 80's named SHOW TIME. His dad tuned Jack Watts funny from Alerton,Ia in the early 90's he was 83 at the time. Two diff guys. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif
