View Full Version : Ford sucks...or do they?

I've always been pretty much a Chevy/GM kind've guy...sure I've been appreciative of and even owned a few cool Mopar cars and other brands over the years but never had any love for much in the Ford family. .
I never enjoyed working on them in my days on the bench and chose my side of the Hatfield-McCoy like feud of the 60's/70's quite naturally...also have always really rather enjoyed beating up on the Mustangs and their friends! .
Perhaps it's the holidays (maybe the holiday liqour?) or the new year looming, but the way the hobby has gone in recent times with what can be documented also engine alone clarified by Vin alone, I can't help but notice some Fords seeming more appealing...and hard to say but even some Mustangs maybe? .
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I want to own one to love like a 'real' GM car, but as an investment or something to flip, it's seeming somewhat appealing to get away from some of the pre '72 GM product with no engine Vin digit and the whole fraudulent cars and paper and possiblilities that seems to go along with so many of them? .
I guess what I can't help but notice is some deals out there on Fords and yes, even Mustangs that look worth considering, lots of parts available...even a Marti report if it's a more special car and worth doing? .
Am I losing it it, any thoughts on this from you other guys...I think I'd better have a few more drinks and see how things feel...maybe then sleep it off and see how things seem tomorrow? .
Happy Holidays!

Just pick up a chiltons manual and look up all the fireing orders for all the 351 V8 engines ford made,I think there are 3 or 4 different ones and chevy only has 1 fireing order for ALL V8 engines 18436572 for all these years and that alone should be reason enough!FORD HAS A BETTER IDEA NOT!!!!

I really don't think there should be a fence at all, as cool cars are cool cars, regardless of make.
That said, I think Chevrolet stuck with one firing order to make up for the fact that they put the distributor on the wrong end of the engine........
No, you're not losing it, Ford is on top of their game right now---unfortunately Chevy is losing it........If GM wipes the sand from their eyes and get that Camaro out with a good power plant and maybe even Motion offering some super-tuned new Camaros from a selected dealership, then we'll have a ballgame.............

Tom,
Well said ! I went out and bought myself a Cobra Mustang
a little over a year ago. It's a blast to drive and it has
the seldom ordered side exhaust.

When I was younger, it definately was a hate relationship
with Ford. However, as we get older ( and more mellow )
and wiser, we start to see the good in a lot more. Aaah,
maybe just too much egg nog. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
If you like it --- BUY IT ! The Cobra GT500 has my attention
and I'm might buy one next year. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

I think Mac's got it figured...and here I was blaming the innocent booze! .
Seriously though and further to my previous posting, it's the older stuff I'm talking about and even though I'd surely enjoy thrashing a new GT40, I just can't help but keep noticing lately what seems like great deals on old Fords...including those 'girlie car' Mustangs! .
Don't get me wrong, I'm not changing teams and I really don't want one to drive or ever love...and surely NEVER be seen in...just to use them as a resource tool to make dollars and help support the real car habit! .
This whole thing is starting to sound like I'm the same old user and prick I was called back in high school when I'd date the girls I didn't really like? .
Rethinkng it all, nahhh...good deals and opportunities aside, I couldn't ever go through with it...could I? .
Oh great...thinking more, that's exactly what I said in 1976 in grade 10 when I first met the Melanski sisters! .

Pete,
I've been thinking about your comments and I have to admit, I've been wondering the same thing. Isn't it something how we all grew up with such a Chevy allegiance and a hatred of F-O-R-D-s. And now we can't help but recognize that Chevy (and GM) does just not have the direction or engineering it used to have. That's the feeling about today and the future.
And what about the hobby today as far as the older cars we loved? Chevrolet was, no doubt, the most popular car among performance enthusiasts of all the major makers. But today it is the easiest car to clone and pass off as an original than any of those major makes. Many of us want to know that the car we are interested in has a positive trail of un-disputable authenticity. It's no wonder why all the other makes are becoming more popular, especially Pontiac, where you can receive the holy grail of documentation.
If I was an automotive investment counselor, I'd advise buying as many real Pontiac performance cars as you can afford because they can never be disputed!!! And that means a LOT.

Verne...
- Besides wishing you the best of the season and Ford jokes aside, I've gotta' agree and tell you I've been giving the Pontiacs also the similar Canadian GM documented products some serious thought lately too. .
Those Canada shipped Copo numbers quoted the other day were surprisingly higher than I'd previously thought and that combined with the availablilty of Canadian GM documents, a fella' in the Copo or other bigger-buck GM market would be foolish not to try securing one of these first! .
The biggest thing for me is how important a vehicle's pedigree over condition has become more apparent each and every day...especially considering some of the situations we've been seeing around here lately! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif .

I agree that proper documentation prevails when purchasing a car today. I just bought a 70 442 W-30 out of Toronto,it was a Canadian sold car and had the GM Vintage letter but it was the other paper work that blew me away starting with the receipt for the $100 deposit left on Aug 8 1969 all the way through to the mirror card with hand written info from the salesman about what breakin procedure to follow.
Fords and Mopars are easy to spot with the correct engine size right in the vin. The diff between docs and no docs is huge in todays collector price market.I have always had Oldsmobiles and Mopars in my camp,so I cant relate to the Chev/Ford fued.

Congrats on the '70 W30...is it a post car? .
I bought a '70 442 Post car in Toronto about 25 years ago and drove it the hour home down Hiway 401 w/ a dealer plate flapping, a leaking gastank and no brakes! .
Obviously foolish now but seemed to make perfect sense back then...even took it up over 100 mph on route! .

Although much safer really than the run in the Oldsie, I remember hanging the dealer plate on the back of the Super Late Model Camaro stock car one afternoon and running it about 10 miles up Hiway 12 between our shop in Brooklin Ontario and the paint shop in Manchester...even wore my helmet, safety first you know! .

The car is hardtop. Sold new at Central Motors in London. Paperwork also had business cards of "Performance Sales Manager" and "Hi Performance Technician". The car was in the London area for all its life.
