I have a friend who thinks he may have found a 69 COPO Camaro. It is a x44 car, factory BB heater box, 12 bolt rear, but the VIN is a 6 cylinder car VIN (12337).

Did the factory COPO cars have 6 cylinder car VIN?
Thanks.

Don't think so. What is the code on the rear?

Good point ! In Sweden itīs likely to find a supercar hidden behind a 6-cylinder VIN because of the high importtaxes on cars in the seventies and eighties.
They would bring the supercar into the country as junk, then find a smashed one of the same type and take its identity.

Thanks for the responses. The car doesn't have a BE rear. The car is actually 700 miles from me, so I will pass any info on to my friend.

So I guess that a 427 COPO Camaro could have a 6 cylinder vin? Are there any documented out there?

I'm a Firebird/TA guy. I guess I would have assumed a COPO car would get an 8 cylinder vin?

Rick,
No factory 8 cylinder option 1969 COPO Camaros have been found to have 6 cyl Vins from the factory.

Thanks Stefano, I wouldn't think a 427 car would have a 6 cyl vin from the factory.

Steve,

But there is one original drivetrain Copo with a convert vin!! The Copo was bought in original unrestored condition, tired and with original drivtrain in '85, with a 124679N vin! Strange but true!

Sorry for jumping on this thread But I currently have a 69 copo camaro, as far as I know it is real, and it has a vin that comes back as a convertible. Is there any way to verify the origins of the car? Ive been searching but havent found any luck. I was told this was the site to find the best info. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Check the VIN against the Cowl tag and the partial VINs on the firewall and the upper cowl through the cowl vents. Also is the org engine still in the car?? Check the VIN on the block and the engine code to see how they all match up.

Since it has a Vert VIN I wonder if they might have put the "X" brace under the car as well. Would be neat to see the cars info, any pics

Is this car a Fathom green/ green interior 4 speed Camaro? If so I know the history on the car.

Alan lives down near you. He probably has some history on the car too. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
