Bring it on !!! I'll vote for that. I'll also suggest if you are so inclined as to need that check and stay home on your rear that you not come to the Post Office to pick up your check driving a Lincoln, a Jaguar, or any other vehicle worth more than $50,000.00 sheeesh! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Very wise man...makes perfect sense! .

Instead of handing out the Farewell cheques, I've always thought there should be a plastic widget plant in every town? . You ain't working and need dough, no problem...just show up every day and put your time in making widgets! . You're tired from working each day so go to bed every night (instead of sleeping days and up partying nights like on the dole)...and at the end of the week you get a paycheque! . Then the plant melts the widgets down over the weekend to make 'em all again next week! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif .

Aside from the Doc, I've never been asked to do any urine tests!http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif.

An old fellow near here had a simple idea. To collect welfare, come down to the town hall and sit in the auditorium 8 hours a day. There are lots of people who can put on seminars and make speaches to educate and entertain. No show. No pay. Welfare is probably like everything else. There are those who abuse the system and make it bad for those who really are in a bind.

I'll vote for that idea.

I'd like to see the welfare people earn thier money by taking some of the jobs the illeagles have. No work, no pay. Just like it should be.

Denver Post:

This text is from a county emergency manager out in the central part of Colorado after todays snowstorm.

WEATHER BULLETIN

Up here, in the Northern Plains, we just recovered from a Historic event--- may I even say a "Weather Event" of "Biblical Proportions" --- with a historic blizzard of up to 44" inches of snow and winds to 90 MPH that broke trees in half, knocked down utility poles, stranded hundreds of motorists in lethal snow banks, closed ALL roads, isolated scores of communities and cut power to 10's of thousands.

FYI:

George Bush did not come.

FEMA did nothing.

No one howled for the government.

No one blamed the government.

No one even uttered an expletive on TV .

Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton did not visit.

Our Mayor did not blame Bush or anyone else.

Our Governor did not blame Bush or anyone else, either.

CNN, ABC, CBS, FOX or NBC did not visit - or report on this category 5 snowstorm. Nobody demanded $2,000 debit cards.

No one asked for a FEMA Trailer House.

No one looted.

Nobody - I mean Nobody demanded the government do something.

Nobody expected the government to do anything, either.

No Larry King, No Bill O'Rielly, No Oprah, No Chris Mathews and No Geraldo Rivera.

No Shaun Penn, No Barbara Striesand, No Hollywood types to be found.

Nope, we just melted the snow for water.

Sent out caravans of SUV's to pluck people out of snow engulfed cars.

The truck drivers pulled people out of snow banks and didn't ask for a penny.

Local restaurants made food and the police and fire departments delivered it to the snowbound families.

Families took in the stranded people - total strangers.

We fired up wood stoves, broke out coal oil lanterns or Coleman lanterns.

We put on extra layers of clothes because up here it is "Work or Die".

We did not wait for some affirmative action government to get us out of a mess created by being immobilized by a welfare program that trades votes for 'sittin at home' checks.

Even though a Category "5" blizzard of this scale has never fallen this early, we know it can happen and how to deal with it ourselves.

"In my many travels, I have noticed that once one gets north of about 48 degrees North Latitude, 90% of the world's social problems evaporate."

It does seem that way, at least to me.

I hope this gets passed on.

There is an old fable about the difference between heaven and hell.
Take two very similar situations, but with very different endings.
Long story short, the moral of the story is that in heaven, everybody looks out for everybody else. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif
In hell, people only think about themselves. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsdown.gif
Shows what govt assistance can do to people. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif
Congress could have voted to give everybody who lost their home in NO $1mil, provided that they stay there and pay for rebuilding a house they would own free and clear, and it would have saved the taxpayers a billion $$$. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif
However, our tax dollars go to pay for FEMA, and a half a dozen other useless govt agencies. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bs.gif
God helps those who help themselves. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/scholar.gif

I don't believe Denver's snow storm was any where even on the same scale as the wholesale destruction of property on the Gulf coast from Katrina, including one of our major US cities.

Sam,obviously a far more catastrophic event no question. That being said it did expose many truths.Like the old saying goes everytime you point a finger at someone there's three pointing back at ya.The free lunch system in this country is appalling, and needs change.Make welfare as hard to get as a building permit.

When you rely on hte government for anything... you get nothing, government is the problem not the solution...
