A Freind of mine bought a rear end last night out of a camaro and the code on the rear has a BE stamped on the tube and it looks like the build date is c-18-8 which should be a march 18th 68 is this too early?

Ray,
If the casting date is March 18th of 68, it is too early.
Post a picture of the axle stamp, cast date, and or the R&P and posi unit.

BE rears do not use a letter date. If it was a March build it would be stamped "0318", followed by the shift it was built on, 1, 2, or 3, and a letter "G" for the Flint plant.
So for March 18, 1969, 2nd shift, it would have to be stamped "BE 03182 G". http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/scholar.gif
The BE was a '69 only code. Post a pic!

It is actually plant followed by shift.
ie: "BE 0519G2"

Are you sure it's C-18-8 and not C-18-9? The casting #'s can get pretty ugly and tough to read.
