Thoughts on 69 rs/ss Camaro big block car

Interested in thoughts about a car I know about.

It is a 69 RS/SS with 20k miles on it. It has all the goodies. Big block 396 car with 12 bolt,t400, Chamber exhaust, Hugger orange with hockey stripes, endura bumper, hidden headlights, black interior.

Here is the problem or maybe lack of a problem.

It was stolen from the dealer when new, recovered without the wheels/tires and motor. The dealer installed a 454 and 70 z/28 wheels, then sold the car to the owner who has passed away and now his son has it. It is complete but apart from the firewall forward. The son thought he would "redo it". I believe he has all the original paperwork with the car. I may have the opportunity to buy it.

Would you classify this as a dealer super car or just a regular 396 camaro with a 454 in it. It was not marketed through any of the big performance dealers.

The car is an original very clean unmolested car. It has a very little rust just above the rear wheel wells other than that this car is pristine and shines like new.

Any ideas of the value of such a car?????? As is or completed????

The car is very well hidden, please do not ask for info on how to buy it. I just needed some idea from the experts here on this board.

just kidding, I'd say if the kid has docs to to prove the dealer install you may have something, it will still be an odd deal as far as value due to the theft/recovery, great story if you can get it purchased. might be able to salvage 90% of the original paint.

The key is whether there is any paperwork like an original invoice when the car was purchased from the dealer that lists the 454 engine. Without any paperwork, it's a nice 69 BB Camaro w/out the original engine. Sounds like a cool find if it has the paperwork to back up the engine swap.

The determining factor is going to be which 396? What has been done other than taking the front end apart? Has the paint been removed from anything? Has someone gone crazy with a bug bomb on the subframe? Firewall?

I would try to pick it up if the price is right. Even without original motor it is still a 1969 BB camaro. The dealers sometimes installed what they had under warranty instead of ordering the original motor. In those days that was considered and up grade. Some of the 69 Z/28's received LT-1's also for warranty. The car is all original including Paint(Hugger Orage)and the interior is all still installed and looks like brand new. The only thing in question is the front subframe finish.
