I have started a registry for the 1968 L-79 Novas. There were only 1274 built in 68. I know these are not Supercars but they are very cool Novas and not much is known about them. Please let me know if you have any info on these amazing cars.

You may already know about this car, but here is one that is not too far from us. Under current inventory.

That is a L-79 Chevelle. I am just doing Novas right now. I know that Chevelle very well I used to own it. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
My bad, sorry. So is that Chevelle the real deal?

I never had any documentation with the car, and didnt have it long enough to find out.
Did it have the "born with" engine in it when you had the car?

I am doing a 68 L-79 Nova registry, I would rather not discuss the Chevelle.
No big deal. Just had heard some rumors about the car and figured best to get it straight from the horse's mouth.
Good luck with the Nova registry.

After thinking it over I thought I would set it straight on the 68 L-79 Chevelle. The motor is not the born with motor. It was a L-79 motor out of a 68 nova, ironically I wish I had now. I did not sell it as the real deal. The people who made the claims that is the original motor will have to answer to that. It is really a shame ,the car is very nice, to have such a stigma attached to it.It is a very nice recreation plane and simple. I dont want to get another call from someone buying the car and have to answer to it and not tell them the truth. Case closed.
Jeff, thanks for clearing things up. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif
And as you say, a very nice car. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif
BTW, one of those Novas you are working would fit right in at the Pure Stock Drags. Heck, maybe the Deuce guys would let you in their shootout at the SCR. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

I think the L-79 nova would do pretty good against the Deuces. Might just do that.

Were all '68 L-79 Novas Non-SS cars? .
What ever happened to that rusty one on eBay about 6 Mos. back? . It looked real and the guy was suggesting a rebody...a red one maybe? .

In 68 they were all non SS novas with the SS package. They had a 12 bolt, multi leaf springs, and a three speed or 4 speed muncie.
The red 68 from e bay was sold to someone in MO. It was a real L-79 car with alot of Docs.

Well said Jeff. This is the type of situation that the guy cloning the #68 ZL1 needs to be aware of. The car was built as a recreation, but now... it's being touted as the 'real deal'. Jeff is an upstanding, honest guy, but the subsequent owners.... different story. Nice to put it to rest.
As for a race between a '68 L79 Nova vs. a '70 LT1 Nova - let's do it! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif How about at an SCR when you get your car done? I'm up for it, I think it would be a great race - especially with the '68 L79's usually having an M20 vs. the '70 LT1's having an M21.... the comparisons are endless.

I will be putting the resto pitures of the Green L-79 on the website in a couple of days. It is completly disasembled now. For those who havent drove in a L-79 powered car it is quite an experience.
I have said all I am going to say about the chevelle, if you want to talk novas rock on!

I've seen some pics of the GG L79 in process. Looks like a big job being done right.
I think the 68 L79 registry is a good project. It's been up over at Stevesnovasite for some time. Lotta good info there on these way under rated novas.
These are the novas that I believe can be traced all the way back to Bill Thomas, when he started putting 375hp corvette motors in 1st gen novas.

'Vette engine AND independent rear suspension (Bad Bascom). BT told me the first time out at a USAC road race this car dominated the field. They were "asked" not to bring the car back. That may explain why it was later sold to DH for drag racing.

Just talked to a guy from Virginia Beach, Virginia that ordered a 68 L-79, M-21, 3:73 Posi Black with black bench seat with the ZJ2 exterior trim. He ordered it in april of 68 and got it in July. He has all the paperwork , POP, Order sheet and window sticker. He sold it in the 70s. Maybe we can help him find it. Man that must have been an awesome car new. He said it came with dogdish caps and skinny little 7:35x14 tires. He took it took the dragstrip bone stock and did a 14:40! He wishes very much he had it back. Pictures will be on the website when I get them.

I think the L79 vs. LT1 would be a great race - even better if it was a non-yenko copo LT1 nova = race of the sleepers!

...is there any way to identify if a chevelle came with a L79 motor if the motor and rear are not in the car?
...cowl tag info ..or size of fuel line?
....the car I am looking at has 327 emblems and is a 1968 "Post" chevelle...any help? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

What type of emblems does it have, cast or foil? Also, I think there was an L30 version of the 327 available as well, lower HP.
..it has the 327 inside the square emblems with the side marker light http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

well 1 good way is all l79 cars were 4speeds and the 275 hp cars were saganaw equipped but the l79 had a muncie trans so the speedo cable would exit over by the pass floor insted of the drivers area where all auto and saganaw equipped cars were.. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The L79 novas have a heavier duty radiator than the 275hp versions. I can't say for sure, but would think the chevelles might also.
