Anyone got a good source for rebuilding the manual steering box on a 69 Camaro? Are there kits available to DIY? Costs? Thanks

Lares Steering does them, about 200.00 plus shipping, their phone number is in Hemmings, or if you don't need a date coded box, they (Lares)sells rebuilt boxes to Autozone, about 180.00 with your core.

does anyone sell a manual box that is a closer ratio than stock? i know that ground up sells one for $300. it states standard ratio is 24:1. the close ratio is listed at 16:1. about how many turns would that be lock to lock? thanx mike

They offer power/manual steering rebuilds and quick ratio manual boxes but they do not recommend them as it takes even more effort to turn the wheels then a conventional manual box.

is it just me or is it really that hard to turn a manual box? i have a stock manual box on my 69. other than parking in tight spaces( seldom) i l don't fing it very difficult at all. i actually prefer it when driving around town. but i also use narrower than stock front rubber. mike
