I am new to this site, just discovering it a few weeks ago. Having grown up on the island some of my finest memories are of week nights and Saturday afternoons in Baldwin Chevrolet's showroom drooling over the Motion cars! I have read every page of postings and downloaded all the pictures to my Motion file.
I remember a gloomy fall afternoon watching 2 '69 Motion Camaro's coming out of the service door. Both cars were 427's one having an era custom green and white flip flop paint job. They were being driven down to North Carolina to the new owners. The mechanics were joking regarding the likelihood of both making the trip unscathed with the big cams & steep gears.
I have a bunch of slides from 67-69 at Islip and West Hampton that I need to go through, I know there are some Motion cars in there. I'll need to have some prints made to scan and send in. I'm attaching a picture of the Astoria-Chas vette taken out at Hampton and an article on the Ribbon Camaro I had not seen posted.
Thanks again for the GREAT memories!!!

Nice stable of SS's! Love those big blocks!
I let mine go around 1970 - When I ran slicks it was ripping the trailing arm mounts off the bottom of the car and tearing out the trans crossmember mounts. After blowing the rear and tearing off another trailing arm I stuck it in a friends garage for a couple months then traded it for a velvet vette. I haven't seen it in 30 years - but who knows?
It was a true DAILY DRIVER as the attached picture shows - thats me in the middle of the street.

I'll shed some first hand light on the "COPO" Vette,
MY father worked for Custom Auto Collision that is displayed on the quarter panel.late 60's. My dad was very good friends(goombas) with "GENE COPOBIANCO" aka Gino, Owner of COPO motors, I recall going down to hang out at the shop many a saturday while the car was being prepped by my dad for paint as gino was not a very patient man when it came to such things, the shop was located in astoria queens under the "EL" the day it was to have the paint started my father decides to exercise the big block while it had some puny painter tires on it, i think this scenario was later used in the french connection movie, but the car returned unscathed, as is the way friends go their seperate ways and i only saw the car once again after it was painted,(picture does not do it justice) at National Speedway in Center Moriches, by now I was class racing my 66 cuda, Gino remembered me and allowed me to stroll the pits in the car, I belive the pic here is in the far end of the pits after the ticket booth, along side Graham road. As a side note I have lived within walking distance of MOTION since 1975.

'63 Grand Sports (w/ a D unlike a Buick) did have a similar look but w/ some fluted vanes in the scoops..
Comparing the custom coupe and the '67 roadster hoods, the coupe's scoop area appears slightly higher than the roadster?.
Those goofy scoops on the fender vents of the coupe are somewhat reminiscent of the style on the '68 'Vette here a few weeks back where the guy was wondering if it was a Motion car?. They were a single scoop and kind've looked like a smaller Thunderbolt hood scoop...could be the same Vette customizer?.

HELLO EVERYBODY HERES THE NEWS I GUESS YOU WERE ALL DISCUSSING AND NOT BELIEVING ON HERE SOMETIME AGO ABOUT ROCKYS ROCKET.WELL ROCKY HAS OWNED THE GEM SINCE 1980 AND STILL OWNS IT TODAY THOUGH I HAVE SOME INTEREST IN THE CAR AND THATS BETWEEN HIM AND I.SO HMMMMMMMMMM WERE DO I START WELL WE HAVE THE JOEL ROSEN LETTER I GUESS THAT SAYS ENOUGH BUT I WILL CONTINUE JOEL ALSO AUTOGRAPHED THE DRIVER VISOR AND NOS REAR QUARTER GLASS STICKERS BUT TOLD US NOT TO REMOVE THE ORIGINAL ONES EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE PEELING FROM THE GLASS AND TO RUN THE REAR BUMPER THATS ON THE CAR BECAUSE THE REAR BALDWIN STICKER HAS NEVER BEEN REPRODUCED AND HE HAS NONE TO OFFER.LET ME CONTINUE WE ALSO HAVE THE NICB REPORT AND FOR THOSE WHO DONT KNOW WHAT THAT IS LET ME TAKE THE TIME TO TELL YOU WELL ITS A NATIONAL DATA BANK THAT VERY FEW PEOPLE CAN ENTER AND DONT ASK ME HOW TO ENTER OR HOW WE HAD IT ENTERED BECAUSE EVEN JOEL WAS WONDERING BUT THE NICB KEEPS TRACK OF EVERY CAR DELIVERED NEW TO A DEALERSHIP AND WHAT DOES THE REPORT SAY WELL YOU GUESSED IT ROCKYS CAR WAS DELIVERED TO BALDWIN AUTO ON FEB 28TH 1968.
SO LETS SEE THE CAR HAS THE JOEL LETTER,ITS AUTOGRAPHED BY JOEL,IT HAS THE NICB REPORT OH LET ME CONTINUE I RESEARCHED THE OWNERSHIP OF THE CAR AND FOUND 6 PREVIOUS OWNERS DATING BACK TO LATE 69 EARLY 70 SO I HAD LETTERS TYPED UP AND SENT THEM TO ALL THE PREVIOUS OWNERS 3 WHO LIVED IN WILLIAMSPORT P.A ONE WHO LIVED IN CANTON P.A AND ONE WHO LIVED IN ELMIRA HEIGHTS N.Y AND ONE IN HORSEHEADS N.Y AND THERE ALL SIGNED AND NOTARIZED SAYING THE CAR WAS A BALDWIN MOTION AND THE GUY FROM CANTON P.A WHO OWNED THE CAR IN 73 HAD PHOTOS OF THE CAR SO I GUESS THE CAR HAS THE JOEL LETTER IS AUTOGRAPHED BY JOEL HAS THE NICB REPORT AND HAS DOCUMENTED OWNER HISTORY.SO MY QUESTIONS TO YOU GUYS IS THIS,THE CAR IS A DOCUMENTED 1968 BALDWIN MOTION SS427 CAMARO I KNOW THERE ARE A FEW PHASE THREE 68S OUT THERE BUT DO YOU GUYS KNOW OF ANOTHER SS427 CAR????? CAR HAS ALL ORIGINAL SHEETMETAL AND HAS BEEN FRAME OFF AND CURRENTLY BEING PAINTED AND FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO PREVIOUSLY STATED THE STRIPE WAS TO WIDE ON THE CAR WELL JOEL ROSEN THOUGHT MAYBE JUST MAYBE IT WAS TO BUT WASNT FOR SURE ALL I CAN TELL YOU IS IF HES NOT FOR SURE THE ONLY THING WE CAN USE AS GROUNDS OF HOW WIDE THE STRIPE IS GONNA BE WHEN IT COMES BACK FROM BEING PAINTED IS THE PHOTOS WE HAVE FROM 1973.HOPE IVE LAID TO REST ANY IFS ON THE CAR AND IM REALLY NOT RUDE JUST TRYING TO GET THE POINT ACROSS.I HAVE TWO QUESTIONS FOR YOU GUYS ONE IS, IS THERE ANY OTHER DOCUMENTED SS427 CARS AND NOT PHASE THREES LIKE MARKS AND KEVINS CARS AND LAST AND NOT LEAST THIS CAR WILL BE FOR SALE IN THE NEXT 12 MONTHS OR SO, SO FELLAS WITH THE BIG CHECKBOOKS GET READY.
IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR ANSWERS FOR ME I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE THEM I HAVE CORRESPONDED FOR 7MONTHS WITH JOEL EITHER BY THE COMPUTER OR BY PHONE AND EVEN TALKED TO HIM IN PERSON LAST YEAR IN CARLISLE AT THE CAMARO NATIONALS PLEASE EMAIL ME DIRECTLY AT
[email protected]
I DONT ENTER THIS SITE OFTEN AND NEITHER DOES ROCKY BUT ALL QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS CAN COME TO ME THANX FOR READING THIS EXTREMELY LONG LETTER BUT THE CAR DESERVES IT AND SO DONT YOU SUPER CAR AND MOTION FANS.KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST!!!!!!!! DAVE TADDER

Yes, I own a '68 BM SS 427 Camaro with under 3,000 miles. It is red w/black int. & white stripes. The car is documented by the original Baldwin Chev. invoice/bill of sale signed by Dave Bean, co-owner of Baldwin Chev. The invoice lists all of the Motion options. I also have the original title from 1968 still in the 1st owner's name. He is alive and well, and still racing.
Welcome to the board and I too would love to see some of the vintage pictures of Rocky's Rocket. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

What month in 1984 was the red camaro in?

Both cars were in the Camaro greats issue - I don't know if this was the only time they were published -
or if this mag was a compilation of the year
Great Motion Vette - I don't think I've ever seen another '81 - looks fabulous!
I'll keep my eyes open -

Hey
That is quite an undertaking you are planning - Good luck with your project.
I don't have many shots of Motion Corvette's. I guess I didn't have the respect for them back
then as I now do!
Any idea as to the original color configuration?
If you don't mind me asking - where did you find it?
