Is there any distinguishing features between a reproduction stainless steel starter heatshield part # 224 and a real GM one.Is there a way to tell them apart?Does anyone have a picture a real GM one to post.What is a fair price for a real nice used GM one .Thanks Bob http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

The original off my 69 BB is stainless. Very shiny in-fact when you wipe off the grease.
I believe Heartbeat City repops them in stainless.
The currently available repops aren't bad, just require a little filing to get the rear mount to fit.

That Vette only comment intrigues me. Why different for
the Vette? Did it have to do with the header like exhaust

That picture is of a NOS one I just sold. Had it for 20 plus years. I originally bought it from a guy who purchased it for his 69 BBC camaro but it would not fit.He thought I may have better luck with it on my 70 chevelle or BBC impalas.
No go. I have since sold it to a vet collector who indicated exactly as you said due to the different manifolds on the vet that is why it was vet only.
Interesting however is the fact 66 impala l-72 has the same manifolds as the vet 827/828 so it would probally fit that impala only.I actually had a 66 l-72 biscayne at the time but never tried it since she was not giving me any problems like the chevelle was.Playing with the starter shims also fixed the issue on the chevelle.

On a slightly different tact, no matter what you have heard before, Corvette big block ex manifolds will fit on a 69 Camaro, without power steering. Didn't try it on a power steering car, but they may also fit there too. Only problem with the manifolds is ground clearance, not sub frame interference. There isn't room for the ex heat riser and you need to get creative with the flange gasket. In fact, there is even more room around the drivers side manifold using the Vette manifold than there is with the stock ex manifold. I'd heard all the stories too, but when I got my hands on a pair of Corvette manifolds and a 69 Camaro, I just had to give it a try...... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

We never did hook the pipes up but it wouldn't be impossible. It was more a "what if" question that came up about a certain stock appearing orange Camaro and what might have been if the Corvette manifolds had been legal or allowed. If they had been legal or allowed, we just wanted to be ready when that came about.
