I was browsing E-Bay this morning and came across this ad:

69 Camaro Convertible, 29,000 original miles (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1969-Camaro-Convertible-Yenko-COPO-SS-Z28-69-Parts-LOT_W0QQitemZ250081037119QQihZ015QQcategoryZ6763QQ rdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

I can't believe that someone would want to destroy that car to build a "hot rod", when there are repop shells available.
Some people have no heart.

I agree! With all the junk out there why destroy a car like this. Don't need to do this anymore to build a Pro Touring car or whatever. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

I agree , there are other cars that could be modified. One of my old 69 camaro # match cars is being Hot rodded as we speak ,I told the owner I could find him other cars to cut up and get him good money for the # car , his answer is why I already own this one! Has anyone askedIf he would sell the convert whole ?

I bought a mint black std interior from a clown who was making a racecar out of a clean '69...in 2004!! I guess where else are you gonna find mint GM interior parts?

My bad, the window crank is hiding in plain sight. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/stupid.gif
They may be fools, but I've seen Vintage car guys go balistic over '32 Fords being Pro-Streeted.
How many pre-war cars were chopped up without any concern for their historic value? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I recieved an email from this guy. He is willing to take offers on the car. I like the car, but there's no way I can buy anything right now. If any of you are interested, contact him through his listing.

Same thing with me. I sent him this email: "Why destroy an original car that is that nice? Why aren't you listing it for sale instead of cutting it up. I cant be the only one who would like to buy it. Cant you use one of those new Dynacorn bodies for your project?"

His repsonse was "Make me an offer"

Please someone rescue this baby!

This reminds me of when a member on here had an amazing low mileage original 6 cyl Nova. Everyone was telling him not to drop in a 427 and day 2 the car but no one wanted to step up to the plate and buy the car.

I agree this Camaro is a beautiful original car but who wants a Camaro with a 6 cyl??? Maybe Kevin Suydam can buy it for his collection to illustrate the other end of the muscle car horsepower spectrum!!!

What do any of you think this car should be worth??? Perhaps someone should buy the car and give it some real horsepower!! White 427 convertible would be quite cool!!!!

I think that is the current owners plan. I personally would consider starting with this car as a basis if I would building a prostreet convertible. Its a very solid basis and much of the build cost could be offset with the sale of the original parts off the car. Don't get me wrong, I understand the butchering side of the argument as well. Check out the other auctions. They look like they build a wicked 69. Would you rather the guy start with this car or a rusty RS/SS big block vert?

Funny how things come full circle. I remember decades ago the antique car guys and hot rodders were at odds over the rodders chopping and modifiying nice orig '20, '30s and '40's aniques and classics.

Who ever thought the same thing would happen with Camaros??!!!

The car was priced - it'll cost someone $59,500 to save it. Granted, it's high for a 6 Cylinder convertible, but how many 1 owner/P-O-P cars are left. Sure wish it'd get saved, I just cant afford to be the one to step up...

Does anyone here know of anybody using one of the Dynacorn bodies ? We've all seen the mag articles and the TV shows but who has actually bought one? It would be nice to hear from an unbiased user on how usable they are.....Maybe more decent Camaros will suffer the same fate as this 69 because of issues with the new body's...Is it more cost effective to rebuild a junk Camaro than to buy a new repro body ?????.....For as long as they've been out, I felt I would have heard or read about more being used..... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Last year in Carlisle my brother and I were looking at the display body they had there, and when i asked the guy who is actually buying them, he told us "alot of guys with Yenkos and COPOs are buying them and building clones to drive so they don't have to take out their real cars that are too nice to drive." I called his bluff and told him I knew of no Yenko owners that had any plans to build a reproduction clone of their car to drive. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif When I asked for some names he said he couldn't tell me who "all these people" were... that was a year ago, and I still don't know of anyone building one.

Thanks Joe...That's my point...With the internet and the vast info at our fingertips......Who's got one? Or is it the fact they are doing a rebody keeping them silent?

GUYS,
As you see from our website we build some pretty high end cars. We were on the lookout for a solid convertible doner and found the convertible you guys are talking about.
We wont use the repop bodys due to fit and other concerns. Also, they are not 69 camaros. They are repop Bodys that RESEMBLE 69 camaros. We wont use them. Period!
The twin turbo that was just sold on ebay was actually
the display car for detroit speed (dse). We purchaced it
because it was about as nice of a body as you could find.
All original panels... floors ect.. A great car to start with .
If you were spending $130,000 on a custom camaro or any other kind of car would you want a car that started out as a rusty piece of crap? Of course not!! We could go out and find a nice "ss" (as they all are nowadays) and only find out after we put it on the rotissary that is all mudded up with repop floors ect...
I know its kind of a sin but on the business side its the right car to make another twin turbo out of.
I had like 50 people ask about the parts and I emailed a bunch the first nite and had people telling me i'm crazy on the prices because "you can buy a brand new carpet set for 99 bucks " or " new A/C is only a grand !! "
thats why i decided to ebay the stuff....
I really dont like parting it out but maybe the parts can go in a REAL 396 car that needs it !!! It is a 6 cylinder car but it is a survivor too.
If sombody wants to buy it, call me. 59500.00
Why should i sell it for any less, so i can buy a "real SS" for 45000.00 only to find out is garbage under all that nice paint? I hope you see my side...

Steve

I appreciate what you are saying and your concern about wanting to start your project with a nice original rust free car. However, am I missing something here 59,500.00. Are you saying that you can't find a nice donor car for less. I find that had to believe. I am always looking for donor cars for my business and granted nice ones are hard to find but they're out there. I purchased this running driving 69 4 months ago for 7,500.00. Factory V8, 4sp, 95% rust free, all original GM body panels, fenders, doors, floors, etc. I have another complete 307 69 a little more complete but just as rust free and original and I paid 9,500.00 for it. I'll trade either one to you straight up for the white 6 cyl car, if all you need is an original rust free donor car. On second thought if they're worth that much maybe I'd better hold to them. Sincerely if finding you a nice rust free donor car will save the 6 cyl car let me know I'm sure I can find one for way less than 45K.

I appreciate modified cars, but I'm always at war with a hardcore purist streak. I've had several cars with 3-speeds and dog dish caps that I simply couldn't modify because they were untouched and I couldn't be the one to "defile" them. (And I HATE 3 speeds and LOVE 5 speeds). That said, a white, 6cyl column shift Camaro has got to be at the bottom of desirability, other than the convertible aspect. I personally won't mourn its rebirth as either a Pro Touring car or SS/RS clone (as long as they don't waste date coded parts), or whatever.

Its like the house we tore down to build ours. It was OK, but the lot deserved something better. I'm MUCH happier in my custom built house.

Don't think it was anything special. X11, Std Black, Cortez Silver. Had a 10 bolt spool in it when I bought it. SB heater core.

The firewall looks like this now. Somebody put a hunk of aluminum in front of it.

As far as the car goes, I couldn't help but notice the original looking blank fenders, std. tail panel and ZL2?.
What fuel line and tach was there?.
And weren't some Copos X11 anyway?.

People still buy cherry '30s V8 Fords and hack them into street rods yet 'glass and repro steel bodies have been available for years. You know what it is? Anybody can buy a repro, but it's more prestigious to have original sheetmetal. Cutting-up an original car is more desireable to many than it is to simply buy repro.

Remember, what's "cooler" to say when someone asks if it's a real car? "Yeah, it's real." or "No, it's a repro body." There you have it.

I also noticed the rear antenna hole, and no antenna hole in the fender. Coupled with rear spoiler, that would be a negative. But I thought, maybe radio delete, with aftermarket radio/antenna. Also noticed the spoiler holes in the trunk lid, but couldn't see any emblem holes. If the lid is original to the car, it would have had one or two sets of emblem holes. Another negative, but bondo is a magical thing.

We can dream for you can't we?
