When the spring spacers were used to raise the front end, how much higher did they make it? I am ordering new coils for the front of our 68 Camaro and not sure if I should go 1.5 or 2 inches over stock. Thanks in advance!

Scott, I do't think there was a set amount, but I can tell you from experience...1" is a lot. We put 1" taller than stock BB springs in a 70 Nova SS...Made by Eaton..original GM style...and they were a bear to install...kinda like holding on to bomb! I will try top post a photo...front tires in pic are F70 x 15 vintage polys..

Thats the look I'm going for, not quite that high though. That looks like a whole lot more than an inch! I thought there was a thread on spacers, but I can't find it.

Wilma, Were the springs supposed to change the ride height 1 inch or were they 1 inch longer? Did you measure the ride height difference? In the picture I'd have to guess its raised 2 to 3 inches over stock.

I didn't measure the before and after...car had stock 14" wheels with normal tires....there were also spring spacers in the old coils to help support the frt end due to old age...do you have a BB car..??? I can check some of the other cars and see what the stock ride height is....remember I also have 15" wheels...I'm thinkng about lowering it back down a little..came out higher than expected...we could probably check with Eaton on my order and scale it back a little..

I would talk to Heartbeat City and see what Jim Stubbing has to offer on this matter. I would leave the stock springs in with a little sag before I would go to all this work and not be totally happy with the height. JMO Sam http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

Heres a 69 Z, in 1972. BB front springs, rear air shocks, because thats how he liked the stance.

Now that its been frame-offed, it still sits on the same springs, and the rally's still dont have rings/caps http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/headbang.gif

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b217/RamAirDave/GoldZ/GoldZ72Rear.jpg

Installed the front springs on the bare subframe without any issue, but after the car was together, thought it might have a BB spring. Previous owner confirmed it.

From the experiences of myself and friends, new springs in general will raise the car the best part of an inch. Our '72 Lemans Sport was supposed to be getting stock replacement springs and it still hasn't settled to where I would like it to be. A friend's big block Chevelle was the same. Perhaps some of the aftemarket handling kits might have springs that give a more accurate ride height. Ours were from a local spring shop.

Nooo....... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

The black steelies are perfect on that car!

All it needs is a set of dog dish caps and to drop the nose just a tad...you'd have the ultimate "sleeper" look. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

That car is so cool its not funny. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Tom--any chance you'd be willing to grab a tape measure and give me the height & width of those Goodyears? I'm thinkin' something like that might look good on my bucket of bolts.

The car has a BB with a cross ram. I am trying do a day 2 look with it. I want to lift the front end whatever the distance the aluminum spacers did, only using just a spring. The place I called had springs based on ride height not spring length. I know there was a thread on the spacers with pictures, but, still can't find it. I will probably run a 205 or 215.75.14 Redline on the front.

Those old school knuckle type spacers fit in the coils and you locked them by turning with a ratchet...raised it up about 1/2"....my old 70 had several in each front spring..I think 15" tires will look better with the raised suspension...the perfect 68 to look at is Mark Hassett's 68 Motion car..that was the look I was going for.....car looks like it is ready to pounce..and with that L88...it is!!

That's the look I want. I'm not talking about those little blocks that screw into the spring. It was a spacer that fit under the spring.

Yep--the 15" tires fill in the gap better than 14" wheels when lifted all around. Your front to rear pitch may-be the angled look your lookin for....Car looks like it has no manners at all and doesn't care... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Ditch the steelies for this application. NO ONE ran them in those days. At least a set of Chrome reverse if you are out of money!
