www.THEDOOR.COM (http://www.THEDOOR.COM)

from "the door" website; biography:

".......Even at this early stage, the band was looking for more. Someone suggested they check out the thriving Long Island, NY rock club scene. Bands like Twisted Sister, Rat Race Choir, and the Good Rats were cranking out significant rock 'n' roll in the late 70s, playing clubs like Speaks, Hammerheads, The Mad Hatter, and Chaucers Ale House. So, Zebra played its first Long Island gig on New Year's Eve 1976, at a club called "The 1890s" in the town of Baldwin."

http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif Bruce, you are causing me to have some significant flashbacks. I remember now that Zebra did some pretty cool Led Zeppelin covers. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/headbang.gif
I can vaguely remember the 1890's club. I believe there was a large amount of second hand smoke at these events. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif Thank goodness I havent suffered any permanent damage.

I remember Bruce Springsteen playing at Le Garage which was a little octagon shaped dump here on Long Bech Island (LBI) and only a few people showing up. George Thoroughgood playing at Joe Pops in Ship Bottom on LBI and really rocking the place, Actually, Many famous bands played at Joe Pop's Shore Bar before they became famous. A few years ago John Bon Jovi was hanging out and hopped up on stage for a song. Here is a link http://www.chorusandverse.com/content/200208/20020808_DaddyPop.htm

If that's the deal then that's another interest of mine; the transgression of some of the early bands. Start with the members of Buffalo Springfield and do a 'Family Tree'. How many groups were formed from those original members and their spin-off groups? CSN (&Y), Poco, Souther-Hillman-Furay, all the way to Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt and Eagles. It's amazing.

Another Trivia question. Who was the lead singer for 'Vinegar Joe'? (Never Met a Dog/Sneakin' Sally Through the Alley) http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

Yep...High School was Sunny Hills High!

Gwen Stefani went to Loara High School...lived 3 blocks from me..and went to the same church as we did. I know her brother Eric.

Here's another trivia question...what is Eric famous for other than No Doubt which he helped found?

The Simpsons.

I believe Eric's influence to start No Doubt was based on his liking of Ska music (The Specials / Madness).

I told you my list would be like that...

I have met Chris Isaak on 2 occasions. He is really cool. He usually signs stuff and talks to people after his shows. Haven't got a photo though. I have been fortunate enough to meet quite a lot of artists that I like (I guess a perk of liking these obscure bands). I have a bunch of signed CDs and such... Only photo I have is one of me and a guy called Mick Karn. Pretty influential bass player I have followed for many years..

I should dig out my stack of concert tickets. How bout listing them and further confusing Ken.. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I think Dick Clark said it best."Music is the sound track of our lives".I think it was magnified during the 60s. A lot of us reached our young adulthood then. It was a tumoltulous time, and the music kinda bound us together. There was a war going on, and much of the music reflected the mood. I can't choose 5 songs, but I'll give you 5 artists, and a few songs.
John Kay, and Steppenwolf: Born to be wild, The pusher, Monster
Credance Clearwater Revival: Run through the jungle, Greenriver, Suzy Q
Jimi Hendrix:6 turned out to be 9, Along the Watchtower, purple haze
Crosby Stills Nash, and Young (or without Young) Ohio, Woodstock, Sweet Judy blue eyes
Beatles: Pretty much everything, especially early stuff, and Revolution
Special mention:
Janis Joplin/Big brother and the holding co.Piece of my heart
Ten years after:Goin home
Country Joe, and the fish: The fish call
Zeplin: Whole lotta love
I miss the 60's. I expect every generation misses the time they were young. But to be a teenager then was something very cool. With the exception of Nam which tended to divide, and galvanize us together.
The only thing that I see today that I wish would have been around then is thongs to go with mini skirts. That woulda been just damn awsome. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Wow what a great thread. Really brings back some great memories hearing everybody's stories. Quick note on Chicago bands, remember Survivor. Frank Sullivan the guitarist lived down the street from me and I remember hearing him play in his garage. He helped inspire me to play guitar and I have been since 1982. It's a great hobby during the winter.

On to favorite bands in no particular order.

UFO
Scorpions
Led Zeppelin
Rush
Ted Nugent
Ozzy with Randy Rhoads
Pink Floyd
Van Halen (DLR)
Judas Priest
Accept
Iron Maiden
Joe Satriani
Cheap Trick
Eagles
Kansas

Maybe this will stir some memories.

I went to the Thorogood & ZZ Top show at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto in the early nineties...great show!!!
After the performance my pal and I pretended we knew what we were doing and chummed our way through security into a party room of record people..
The place was crammed, we grabbed a few free drinks and tried to fit in but all wasn't going perfectly smooth as some people seemed to know we didn't belong and my we're with X-Radio story was wearing thin?.
All of a sudden the doors opened, in came the ZZ boys and Billy Gibbons came straight over to me all excited and treating me like a long lost brother!.
Of course I had to go along with it all and he and Dusty hung with us through the rest of the gala and those who seemed against us before were all smiles now!.
After being presented with some BMG Music record sales award they took my pal and I back to their small private party room and we spent the evening talking cars, bikes etc..
I never did figure out who I was supposed to be but what great car guys especially Billy Gibbons!!
We laughed most of the way home to Peterboro' and did the traditional middle of the night lap of the Mosport road circuit in my old '84 Dodge half ton...the slant six didn't have quite the torque or speed up the back straight that the Can-Am ZL1's did but we got a bit sideways through turn 5!.

ANY of the songs off of Boston's first album

[/ QUOTE ]

Ahh yes, the summer of '77 comes back to me now. I was 14. One of my sister's friends took a liking to me and she was 17 and had a car. We'd listen to that first Boston album over and over. No one home at her house all day, just the two of us. All I gotta' do is put on "Hitch a Ride" followed by "Something About You" and all is good with the world.

Didn't Boston's lead singer pass away recently?

Duh. I was skiing at Vail for the past week and I hadn't caught up with all the posts. This thread was the first one I read!

Wilma: "No one home at her house all day, just the two of us." Disrection prevents me from elaborating. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Either the C.D. of Bruce Springsteen's greatest hits http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gifor his C.D. of his "Born in the U.S.A." Album. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Before you ask, yes, it was Parental Influence. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
