I just picked up a project 66 GTO.... NOM YF code 4-speed, reverb, buckets, console, tach dash, tinted glass, power steering, remote mirror, wood wheel, power rear antenna. I wanted to know how i go about getting this car documented through PHS?

Thanks
Matt

Updated: I have some pics here of the vehicle. I found what looks to be an original broadcast sheet for this car and need some help figuring out what the "groups" are. Here are some pics of what the car looks like. Finally got the car after 2 years of knocking.

Cool http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

If you plan on keeping the car I have a nice factory original blue GTO interior (buckets and rear seat) that I will be selling soon.

I'm also very intrigued by an earlier post I saw of a US built and US sold car that also had a complete PHS doc set. How the heck did that happen? Is it possible that US Chevy submitted their docs to Canada??? And Canada is keeping the holy grails???? I'm ready to pay the money and send my US car stuff to them and see what happens....................!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PHS is not the same as GM Canada. PHS has all the records for 60's Pontiacs, US builds included.

I'm still confused http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif WHO do I contact? GM Canada or PHS for US built cars? (NOT Pontiacs) I SAW a doc on this site "somewhere" from Canada BUT for a US BUILT AND SOLD CHEVROLET?!?!??!?!?!?!
What's up with that????

You're out of luck, Verne. US-built and sold Chevys have no docs available. There are three classes of GM vehicles for which you can get paperwork:

1. All Pontiacs (Pontiac Historical Services)
2. All Canadian-built Chevys (GM of Canada)
3. All US-built Chevys sold new in Canada (GM of Canada)

That's it - nothing more for Chevys.

Rainer,
That's what I always thought too. But somewhere on this forum (can't find it) there is a document posted from GM of Canada for a new US built Chevy that was also sold from a US dealer. (I think I said it was a PHS doc by mistake) So, my question is, how is it that GM of Canada had that record, and if they have that one, how many more do they have?

Just an FYI... 220 interior code is Dark Turquoise, not Blue. Although the pictures appear to be blue. Could be a color change or just faded. LL exterior paint code is Marina Turquoise. I had the same 4 spd 66 with that interior and exterior colors. Great color combo on a 66 GTO! Jim

Verne...Maybe it was sold by a US dealer into Canada ?

That sounds like the only plausible explanation Charley. I figured GM of Canada must have gotten their records directly from the plants, but in this case, it must have come from either the 1st owner who was required to submit a copy of the window sticker, or perhaps it passed through a dealer in Canada who was required to submit the info. You know, it probably wouldn't hurt to test the system again by submitting a known US car through GM of Canada just to see what happens... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

It would certainly be a ground-breaking revelation for the hobby if per chance the US plants turned their production info over to Canada for the "master file"..... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/drool.gif Up until now, why would anyone with a known US car bother to contact GM of Canada for docs? Probably just wishful thinking huh???? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

One other thought - wasn't there someone on the board here who recently got docs for a late 70's or early 80's Chevy? Could that be the one you're thinking of? IIRC, docs going back to that time frame are available.

Yes, the guy who got his father's '77 Z28 back....I think his username might be 'notstock71' or something like that http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Yep! That's it alright. And according to Steve, it never went to Canada! It would be nice to hear what prompted Steve to contact GM of Canada for docs.
