Imus made a really stupid remark about the Rutgers girls basketball team. This is certainly not the first time, he is a shock jock. This link make some really valid points that puts this thing in perspective.

Hi De Ho
Hi De Hi
Gonna Get me
A piece of the pie
Gonna get me
Some of that Old Sweet Roll
Singin' Hi de hi de hi de hi de Hooooo
I've been down so low
Bottom looked like up
Once I thought that seconds saves
Was enough to fill my cup
So I proffered all I got
But it ain't no way to live
Being taken by the ones who got
The least amount to give
Hi de ho
Hi de hi
Gonna get me a piece of the sky
Gonna get me some of that old sweet roll
Singing hi de hi de hi de hi de hooooo.

Sharpton was on the Today Show this morning with Meredith Vierra.....after he ran his mouth for awhile she asked him the tough question: What are you and Jessee going to do about the "gangsta" culture that plays everyday on America's airways...big Al stumbled and side stepped and was obviously not ready to answer this type of question. They went to a video of Sharpton and Jackson in front of NBC...it is ironic that the same guy who called NYC "himey-town" should be condemning Imus for his poor choice of words....how soon we forget http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif Don was wrong and he will be punished...the only problem is that long after this situation is forgotten, young black kids will still be dying in drug related violence on our city streets....and Jessee and Al will still have done nothing to help solve the real problems... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/scholar.gif

I guess alcohol can be considerd a drug since it is a stimulant..but then it can also be a depressant....and yes it can be abused just like illegal drugs....the big difference is that young people aren't having turf wars and gun battles over alcohol..!!! Illegal narcotics are the single biggest cause of violence in this country and the gov't seems helpless to deal with it....and for what it's worth..the same thing happened with booze in the 1920's....the gang warfare in those days was over the bootlegging and smuggling of beer and whiskey. There is a whole culture in this country built around drugs and violence and it is glorified in the gangsta type music that pollutes our young people...call me old fashioned, but drugs are wrong.......why do you think they call it dope..??

Regardless of what you think about the comments, its sad that neither will acknowledge nor care that Imus raised over 40,000,000 dollars for kids with cancer over the past 17 years. They probably never gave it a second thought, nor care that by getting rid of Imus really means that sick children will not be getting the money thats been raised through his radiothon the past 2 decades.

I hope the radiothon for his charities are not negatively affected this year. CBS/WFAN and MSNBC should have taken this into consideration and at least waited until it is over. Imus made a MISTAKE! He made a COMMENT that should have not been made!It was a completely STUPID COMMENT on his part, He gave an APOLOGY so now slap him on the wrist, boot him in the AZZ and move on! I am personally tired of turning on the TV and it is either FIRE IMUS or about Anna Nicole Smith! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.As far as J. Jackson and A.Sharpton whatever they say you just have to consider the source! It is suppose to be OK for Whites or excuse me "CAUCAISIONS" to be called a CRACKER,GRINGO,HONKIE,and other names but to the people that use that language it is OK and there is nothing wrong with it.But as soon as someone that is caucaision (YOU CAN"T EVEN USE WHITE ANYMORE) says the "N" word,or uses Nappy,or calls an ILLEGAL ALIEN and ILLEGAL ALIEN we are automatically labeled a "RACIST".Personally I am completely sick and tired of all that crap.I am also fed up with the people that say we can't use the word GOD ,can't display the HOLY BIBLE or the TEN COMMANDMENTS,and does not want us to use the word CHRISTMAS etc.But when it comes to spending MONEY those people don't have a problem in the world at all! They will spend it like you or me and "ALL" currency has "IN GOD WE TRUST" on every piece of it! So I say to those folks If you feel that strongly about the word GOD!! Then by all means move to a COUNTRY that does not say GOD on the currency! To me the BS is just getting OLD! Sorry for the RANT! sometimes I just can't help it. And if anyone is offended by me using the word GOD either contact a moderator to have it deleted or JUST GET OVER IT! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

What he said following the tattoo statement is not true and offensive. Personally I feel the whole victimization scheme has been somewhat over blown by just about everyone. But what he said about these innocent girls was wrong and NOT true. I posted Jason Whitlok like because it made a lot of sense to me ( read it). What Imus said was wrong, but his punishment doesn't fit the crime, and he did apologize...IMHO
And don't mistake my defense of the girls for supporting the Rev's. They like to stir the pot, and won't apologize anytime soon to the Duke players. They have a long history of a double standard.

I can't really fault the outcome of this. In the end, this really is a "those who live by the sword, die by the sword" kind of a deal. He went off on some innocent, successful young women who didn't deserve his slam and didn't ask for the spotlight. Rush Limbaugh should have gotten the ax back when he attacked 13 year old Chelsea Clinton by telling his listeners that she was the new White House "dog". These young people can and should be protected from media figures. Now if Britney Spears forgets to wear underwear while partying, have at her. She's chosen to be a professional celebrity.
As for turning this into a debate about double standards, lets talk apples to apples. If Larry the Cable Guy lost his gig for race and gender complaints, then yes, I'll compare him to Snoop Dog. But Imus is ostensibly talking "issues" these days with "significant" guests. He can't really have it both ways. No more than any of you guys can run for PTA chairman or local office and still go to the racetrack with two cans of beer strapped to your head and your "Show us your Hoots" T-shirt.
I know that everyone makes mistakes, and that we all have different standards, but here's another true tale of shock jock excess, but without the live wire of racism.
Back 15 years ago or so, a station in Minneapolis had a couple of guys who called themselves the "O Brothers". I didn't think much of them, but I liked the station. I clicked on and heard the sounds of Eric Clapton's "Tears In Heaven". Except the "O Brothers" had created a parody. The lyrics were to the effect of "Would you call my name, if you fell out the window" complete with sound effects. As you may recall, Eric Clapton lost his toddler son when he fell out of an upper story window, and wrote Tears in Heaven as a something of a tribute to him. I like edgy, dark humor, but this made me sick (and I wasn't even a father then). These guys were fired by management shortly thereafter and I didn't have an issue with it. Though I'm a peacenick at heart, I'd probably have been OK with Mr. Clapton giving each of them a whack with the big end of his Stratocaster as well.
Sure we've all said things we regret, especially sitting around with our buddies, but Imus chose this as his career. This business of shock jocking is like walking a tightrope. People like to watch you, but you always have to be mindful of where you are and what you're doing. If you get distracted and try to phone it in....splat.

Guys, I've been away for a week, so forgive the late chime-in.
I have a couple of thoughts on this matter:
1) Imus did what he has been doing all along - opening his
big mouth. He got burned this time. Too bad! Now, do I
think he should have gotten fired - absolutely not. There
is an unbelievable double standard and we all know what I
am referring to. This crap has to stop. I'm not making
light of the injustices of the past, but there is too much
power up for grabs with these kinds of situations. The good
reverends are clear proof of that. Sharpton with the whole
Brawley thing and he never got called on it. Jackson with
his numerous issues ( Himey-town, etc. ) and let's not forget
his counseling Bill & Hillary during the Lewinsky mess. The
whole time Jackson was having an illicit affair of his own
and again no one called him on it because they are afraid of
turning out like Imus. You'd be a racist if you went after
these guys. Why is that? Can someone enlighten us? The
Duke incident was just another notch in the double standard
belt. Wrong is wrong. I don't much care what color your
skin is or what your particular gender is either. If you
do something out of line, you should get popped. I'm not
sure being fired was in order here though. BTW, look at the crap
Howard Stern has been throwing out for years. He's still on
the air - why?
2) Now, about the illustrious NJ Governor - what a sad situation!
This guy wasn't wearing a seat belt and I heard on the news that
he does not normally use them. Well, NJ has been a mandatory
seat belt state for many, many years. This guy holds the
highest public office seat in the State and he ignores a
simple rule that all NJ drivers must abide by. What is
going to happen to the Gov.? I hope he at least gets a
ticket and has to go to Driver's Safety class. Looks like
he needs it. Arrogance about the law should not be
permitted. Princess Diana also was not wearing her seat belt
and I saw a failure analysis report that found that she
would have most likely lived had she been wearing her seat
belt. However, no one ever brings that point up. Why?
I'm sorry she died. It was very sad. I'm also sorry Gov.
Corzine got badly injured in the crash. However, we should
be able to call a spade a spade when it is warranted. It seems
however, that in these times you can only call a spade a
spade if you're the same sex, race, bla-bla-bla. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Maya Angelou has it right: "All vulgarity is vulgarity" (no matter who says it, how they say it, where they say it). Her rejection of Russel Simmons' claim that it's okay for rappers because when rappers say these words it's "poetry" is right-on. It's not poetry, it's VULGARITY. The only way to move forward from this is in a fair and equal manner: If it's not okay for Imus then it's not okay for 50 Cent or Dave Chappelle. But, the double standard is one of humanity's most cherished institutions and therefore 50 Cent and Dave Chappelle basically have nothing to worry about. A case in point is Bill Cosby, who has been trying to get African-Americans to clean up this kind of language and he has been completely ignored.
My opinion is that this issue will GO AWAY rather quickly now that Imus has been done away with. Record companies, MTV, BET, etc. (the corporations that make MILLIONS if not BILLIONS from the marketing of such language) are NOT GOING TO BUDGE on this. Rap/hip-hop has absolutely swallowed the popular music industry whole (thanks in large part to white suburban kids wanting to piss-off their parents--an age-old effort) and it is too large of a money machine to even try to stop or even slow down. Everyone will self-censor themselves for a short while until the dust settles or some other Big Event knocks this discussion off of the airwaves, then the music industry will continue with business as usual. Russel Simmons needn't worry.
What Imus said was stupid and hurtful and he got hammered for it and rightly so. Having said that, the goal here was to censor Don Imus and abruptly end is radio career, not to turn the focus toward rap/hip-hop or the music industry.
Imus will now go into exile for a year or two and come back via satellite radio, maybe even back to the network. If his ranch for child cancer patients has to shut down from lack of money it will be interesting to see what unfolds. Maybe the rap music industry can donate some of their billions to help keep ot open?
Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Short and sweet..Imus hasn't been funny for a long time.I turned the station years ago.
He apologised. The Christian thing to do was to forgive. He has done many charitble things in his life.
Jerks get a second chance too.
The Reverends Al and Jesse should read thier bibles ever once and a while.
One good thing...the bar is raised. 'Nappy headed ho's', we don't need to hear that in any context.

Hypocrisy Reigns Over Imus
Pat Boone
Monday, April 23, 2007
Forget carbon emissions.
Forget big gas-burning Hummers, miles of smoke-belching factories, oil
refineries, and steel plants.
We've been looking in the wrong direction for the real cause of the
notorious Greenhouse effect.
The real culprit is the massive amount of hot air, a gigantic tidal
wave of searing, broiling hypocrisy sweeping over our country and being
wafted by the media all over the world.
What caused this eruption, this odious tsunami of gaseous duplicity?
A few spontaneous, ill chosen but would-be humorous words in the early
morning broadcast of the Don Imus show. An off-hand kidding remark
about a college women's basketball game the night before. Bad taste,
sure. But cause for summary judgment and release by MSNBCand pretty
quickly being fired by CBS, just like that?
Are you kidding me?
Just a minute; what were the ill-chosen words that the early morning
Imus uttered? Aren't they the words ranted and spewed incessantly by
rappers and hip hoppers in their multimillion selling records, the
words that are responsible for the Rollses and Bentleys and Ferraris
and the glittery, opulent "bling" sported obscenely by these "artists"?
The words marketed fervently by the biggest, most profitable record
labels and rather routinely heard, though garbled and drowned in
raucous noise, on network TV , including CBS? How do you suppose these
words found their way into the vocabulary of Don Imus?
I don't know him personally, but I do know that Don was being paid by
CBS and MSNBC to be grumpy, irascible, irreverent, and highly
opinionated, every day to delicious ratings, for around 10 million
dollars a year.
That's his public persona, the reason people tuned in to hear and
enjoy his show. His popularity and on-air spontaneity drew a lot of big
guests, politicians and newsmakers and business moguls, celebrities of
every stripe, to benefit from the exposure to his audience and possibly
gain a grudging compliment or two.
Meanwhile, across town at Sirius Radio, Howard Stern is being buried
under an avalanche of money, over a half billion dollars, to say far
more reprehensible, morally inexcusable things every day, to a
predominately high school and college-age crowd! He calls himself "the
king of all media," and his salary would certainly seem to make him the
logical poster boy of modern media and entertainment today.
And guess what? The man who is running Sirius and making Stern the
sultan of sleaze is the very man who championed him when he was running
CBS for Viacom, the parent company of that network. And guess what,
again? Viacom has bragged recently that another of its subsidiaries,
MTV, is its most profitable entity, carried in 160 countries and making
sure that all those millions of viewers around the world hear the words
that got Imus fired. Fired by CBS!
Compared to Howard Stern and a growing number of other highly paid
"shock jocks," Don Imus is a kindly old father confessor, reminiscent
of the neighborhood barber who seems a little grumpy, who voices his
complaints to any who will listen, but you know he has a kind heart and
only means half of what he says.
So the rappers and record execs roll in filthy lucre, the networks
rake in ratings and moolah from shows that portray every form of
immorality and violence, the cable webs glorify decadence, profanity,
and every last taboo, the weekly magazines and news networks belabor
the Imus incident as if it were World War III, hoping to score ratings
and sales.
Instantly, two of the foremost minor prophets of our day, Jesse
Jackson and Al Sharpton, are all over television condemning Imus' six
or seven words and demanding he be fired, if not deported, by week's
end.
Having apparently been away for several years, maybe on some other
planet, and unaware of Snoop Dog and Ludacris and Fifty Cent and Nelly
and countless other rappers who've been inundating the sensibilities of
America's young with the very words Imus uttered plus every other
foul obscenity known to man set to music and MTV videos for the world
to enjoy, the two modern Jeremiahs also seem to have forgotten highly
public missteps and misstatements each have made themselves.
The public hasn't forgotten, but who cares?
Our beloved Oprah recently gushed praise on Russell Simmons for his
philanthropic activities, good as they are, ignoring how he came by his
millions creating Def Jam records and TV's filthiest show ever, Def
Comedy Jam, featuring mainly black men and women quite simply competing
with each other for the Toilet Mouth of the Month award.
After all, our venerable Motion Picture Academy declared, just two
years ago, that the very best song all our best movie composers and
producers could come up with all year long, and out of all our
creative genius, was "Hard out Here for a Pimp." And if I went
un-edited with the lyrics of that masterpiece here, I'd get fired, at
least from NewsMax!
A paean to pimps, prostitutes yes "hos" and the whole seedy world
of decadent street life, this song joins "White Christmas," "Over the
Rainbow," and "Mona Lisa" as an Oscar winner America's best! Is there
a more definitive way of being ratified mainstream? And Imus got fired.
Which, on a scale of 1 to 10, would you say was worse? Imus' dumb
slight of some college girls who didn't even know he existed? Or Rosie
O'Donnell's scandalous claim that "the Christian right is as bad as the
Taliban" in America?
She only slandered, vilified, and insulted 60 or 70 million fellow
Americans, who do know she exists; but what kind of media firestorm did
that kick up?
You guessed it.
Little or none. The ratings of "The View" went up, and she virtually
took over the show.
To her credit, she had little to say about the Imus affair, when the
subject came up, though. I'm guessing she didn't want her audience to
start thinking about what was appropriate to say on the air, and what
wasn't.
Yes, ice is melting, the barriers are disappearing, the moral
guidelines are vanishing and the hypocrisy is becoming acutely
noxious. Some pots are calling some kettles black . . . so insistently,
so loudly, that the public airwaves are getting toxic.
It's every man for himself, every woman for herself; and the rules, if
any, keep changing. Courtesy? Respect? For who? For what?
Almost nightly, the talk-show hosts revile the president, even the
Pope, with rude and salacious jokes all just for laughs, of course.
And millions of dollars.
Nothing sacred, nobody "off limits," freedom of expression, "free
speech," and all that. Who really cares if somebody is hurt or
insulted? It's just a joke, right? Imagine what poor Don Ho felt,
hearing his name everywhere drug through the muck like that. Come on,
get real, bring Don Imus back . . . or maybe replace him with kindly
old Don Rickles.

Chris,
Well said! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif
I'm sick of the whole lot of them. Howard Stern is a plague
on the youth of America. He really appeals to the least common
denominator. It's sad how a member here gets cancer and
that windbag goes on and on and on pumping out his filth,
healthy as the day he was hatched! Well, at least he's an
ugly bas***d anyway. Sorry for the attitude, tough week on the road.
The media pounded on Imus because it's fashionable to attack
"racists" these days. Unfortunately, that only holds true
if the "racists" are caucasian. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
