Hey Everyone,

A good friend of mine from years past is offering me a LS-6 Chevelle convertible clone. I told him I would think about the car. My thought was, it would give me something I am not afraid to drive to a show and can enjoy without the worry of something happening to my Yenko Camaro. I am certainly no expert on current clone pricing (but have heard rumors of the prices the Hemi Barracuda clones and Yenko clones bring). Now that I have looked over what he has sent me, my interest is peaked. This car is beautiful, and I realize a restoration like could cost $50K to $70K to complete to build a car like this.

I am requesting a poll as to what you think a LS-6 Convertible clone is worth in today's market. I don't want to make a big mistake. I really no idea of value and don't want to get burned.

Check the car out at: http://www.1970chevellels6.com/

Thanks,
Keith

Nice car but I have no clue as to it's value.

that chevelle convert looks an awful lot like the car that happy days dream cars had for sale about a year ago...

the write up would have you believe that a classic can be built from parts, having been born originally as something else.

it sounds from the write up that they are looking for big dollars, if you buy this car you buy it not for re-sale, but because you want it. jmo http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Beautiful car!

Malibu Convertible + whatever the LS6 and SS parts would sell for = clone value

or

The value of joy and satisfaction you derive from owning and driving it!

Very nice car but from my own experience the market is a little soft for anything but real documented cars.

I would place the value on how much you want to spend for a clone. It's hard to pay what it would cost, but, invariably whomever built it will probably have too much in it and not be able to recoup the cost. I would look just how far he went, date coded parts for car, is the cowl tag the same color and was it coded for big block, etc. The purpose for you to buy it is to drive it. Don't compare it to what an original LS6 would go for, you will pay too much. MY opinion is $75,000-$100,000. Good luck and if you do buy it, drive it like you stole it.i wouldn't base it off the Barrett jackson booze and auction hype.If it looks as good as the pictures show, remove the cragars, $75,000 north.I recently bought the most beautiful Thunderbolt clone with date coded everything, aluminum fenders, fiberglass hood & trunk, 427 side oiler at 1/5 of the cost of a real one. I am cloning my 69 Rallye Green Yenko Nova as we speak.

I agree with X-11's comments. By the way, pretty sure that is the Happy Days car. Everything seems to match including the date coded engine.

Considering your comments (about being comfortable driving this car) I'd be more inclined to buy a "real" version of this year/model in maybe a nice "driver" of a 396 car......60-80 range would get you a nice one and it would preserve its value much better in my opinion. What's this clone worth.....don't really know but pretty sure Happy Days had it listed substantially above the $100,000 level. I believe the resale market for this clone would be very narrow.

Pretty fair assessment. If the car is as good as the photos indicate I'd guess he has more invested than what the car will appraise for.

We saw a nearly identical car at the ACES show in 2003. An absolute gorgeous clone, and the owner was totally up front about it being such. I first thought this might be that car but closer looks at your pictures tells me it's not the same car.

My advice to people asking values of cars like this has always been, "If you like it and can afford it, buy it. If you're ashamed of what you gave for it, don't tell anyone. It's none of their business anyway!" Good Luck with whatever decision you make. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Looks like it will take $115K to buy it... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevrolet...108174029QQrdZ1 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevrolet-Chevelle-Chevelle-1970-Chevy-Chevelle-LS6-Convertible-454_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6164QQihZ007QQitemZ 170108174029QQrdZ1)

I'm with Howard, buy it from a junk man's perspective, then drive it like you stole it. Life's short, have some fun.

The car you are thinking of belongs to Andy Haas. A completely honest and straight shooting guy who has a beautiful clone. See attachment.

That's it, I just couldn't remember his name. Beautiful car, done right! If I recall correctly, it even had you questioning the authenticity for a few minutes. Andy was very quick to step up and tell us it wasn't what it appeared to be. Classy guy.

I've been considering building an LS6 clone Convert resently but there are a number of nice ones out there that can probably be had for what it would cost to build one.

Looks like 75K was all the money on this one the first time.

Here's a beautiful LS5 nobody touched at 90K.
