Power Tour 07

Let's get the show started.......Left the house this morning at about 8:00a.m. for the drive to Cleveland....all in all a pretty smooth ride with good weather......Got in about 3:30 and went to register.....there weren't a lot of cars sitting around as people were checking in and leaving right away .......anyhow , here are some pic's with a lot more tomorrow.......First pic is of the Chevelle Speedo and just barely visable tach needle......speedo reads 15 mph slow.....75 mph @ 1200 rpm......Overdrives are great (along with big dia. tires and a 3.08 rear) 20 mpg
But on the drive back to the Motel I smelled gas.....when I opened the hood there was quite a big of gas on the Intake Manifold.....pulled the Air Cleaner off to see where it was coming from and found that the Float Level Sight screw had fallen out of the rear fuel bowl.....Plugged it temporarilarly until I can get another screw tomorrow

Very few pictures of cars as it was on and off raining most of the time we were there.
I did bump into Charlie enough to ask how the "Witch" was running.He said it was running good but no A/C.

I was there Ken - What a pain in the a$$!!! I looked for you, but I was not sure what you looked like and I didn't see your car either... Saturday was beautiful here, I wish the weather had held out. At least you are heading west where the weather is predicted to be better for Monday.

Went Saturday and baked in the sun with Rich (Mr. Chevy) and Steve (68L30). The showing of cars was truly spectacular. There was something there for everyone. On Sunday morning my wife and I picked a spot where the cars entered the highway leaving Cleveland and watched cars go by for 3 hours. I know there was a traffic jam leaving on the route the power tour suggested, there were a several cars that suffered heat stroke by the time they got to the highway.

Here is a picture of Rich's car (70 L78 Nova, 27K), Steve's 68 Camaro (loaded and mint!!!) and my 69 SS with 27K miles.

I ran across several "Power Tourers" along I-294 this morning around 10:00a.m. It was pouring down rain....I felt so sorry for the guy in an A.C. Cobra.....he had half a tonto cover and was dressed in full protective gear....but it was raining buckets. The others I saw...was a Sub Line Green Post Sedan GTX/Road Runner? An Orange Dart....perhaps 71-72? A Black First Gen Camaro....looked very nice. This weather just won`t let up http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

The AMC is running fantastic and my A/C works great. The 12- 12.5 mpg is a bit less then I expected with the 3:15 rear gears, but I'm having a blast.

Oh Yeah! That's John Tinberg and his altered wheelbase Matchbash-style Chevy II. One of my favorite cars of all time. He did an absolutely outstanding job on that car. Even got a Jerico manual transmission in the thing. I just go nuts every time I see it.

Met John Vettefest, super nice guy and neat car. He built the Nova using the March '66 issue of HotRod magazine that featured the Bill Thomas "Instant Funnycar" in it as a blueprint and did a remarkable job.

Plans are for John to have the car at SCR10 as part of the Nickey display, and if all goes well (on my end), I hope to have the orignal BT Nova there as well.

Last time I saw the car it had a 502 with the injectors converted to EFI. Verne, he fools around with 409 cars quite a bit and had a beautiful 1961 409 (fawn, i think) and a '62 Bel Air '09 also.

He is displaying his 71 Lime Green Z-28, parked along with Don Stowers Black 66 GTO, Mike Steitz(St Louis area) 70 Camaro SS, and Annie Hartweg/ Denis Cumby driving ??? (sorry spelling)........I am hoping they can find Jeff Betz who is driving the tour in his 502 Powered 69 Chevelle wagon along with his father. Bill, You are correct...I'm right here in Seattle. I've been keeping in touch with my Springfield friends, Dennis Thomas and Don Stowers via cell phone. As well I spoke to Jeff Betz Tuesday on his cell phone. Evidently he "blew up" his alternator and whatever Billet Specialties provides with there serpentine belt set-up is not easily replaced. Anyway Jeff said he detoured through Chicago, visited Billet Spec and got a replacement.

Can't say for sure about the Little Rock venue but when they were in Springfield the admission was free for spectators. There was a $20 charge if you wanted to bring your car in and be a part of the show (which we elected to do).

The times they gave us were Noon to 8 PM and the long haulers arrived throughout that time period. Being the final day, I would expect a big turnout, and a party atmosphere............... although some of the folks will undoubtably be plum wore-out! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Great Day today......Left E'Ville at 7:30 a.m. and drove about 270 miles thru some beautiful country today....Got into Memphis at about 1:00.....Hot day today, in the 90's but a stiff breeze kept it nice........Everything is going pretty good.......I'll post pic's after dinner.....we are staying in Downtown Memphis on Beale Street.....Pretty Cool......

Also......One story (there were many)......Charley, Scott in Stielow's car (Camaro "X")......Me........and Mark Webster were cruz'in from Memphis to Little Rock.......Me and Mark got stuck at a Traffic Light......Charley and Scott were ahead out of Sight........Charley calls on the Cell Phone and tells me to watch out for the Highway Patrol car with Radar in the Median Strip........I look in my rear mirror and say to Charley......You mean the one that just turned on his Lights and was pulling out into traffic....LOL.....So he pulls behind Mark with his light's going and Mark pulls over......meanwhile Charley is still on the Phone laughing his A$$ off........I said, Well...he must want Mark....but as Mark pulls over the Cop comes after me.....Now Charley is really Laughing.......I pull over and Charley is still Laughing as he is a 1/2 mile down the road and wants a second by second report on what was going on ......and Still Laughing........When the Cop comes up to the car ......he said......."What's your Hurry Boy"...I blamed it on getting Stuck in the Red Witch Vortex (Sort'a like when a 747 takes off and smaller planes have to wait a while for the vortex's to clear).......and he let me go with a "Promise" on my part to never exceed the "Legal" posted limit again........it was easy as long as I stayed a mile or so behind "Vortex Boy".....LOL

The carbon fiber valve covers and coil pack mounts look great, there are not too many vendors with parts for the LS7 yet that I have found. Pro-charger website is claiming 820 RWHP on pump gas with cam change,computer calibration,full length headers and free flowing exhaust, those are some pretty big numbers. Awesome car.

WOW...what an awesome bunch of pictures and what a great time it was. Lots of neat people and far too many cool cars to imagine without being there for yourself. Even though I considered renaming it the "Shower Tour" after the first few days, it got better as the week went on.

I am sure all of you guys just saw me first and ran in the other direction when you spotted me. (Especially you, Mr. Cumby). I did manage to hook up with Mark Webster in Little Rock and I saw Kens 66 parked by Marks car. As for Charlie, well...now I see why I didn't catch up with him. So who kicked in his bail money?

Thanks for the pictures and sharing some of the memories from the road. It is amazing how many of the same cars we took pictures of...and how many cars you shot that I never even saw.

I will also be at the show that Charlie will be at this Sunday, (Eyes on Design in Detroit) as I am one of the Selection Committe members, so if anyone needs some more pics of it, let me know.
