My friends '71 LS6 Corvette was auctioned on Sunday June 10th thru the EXCELL Classic Auction event. It brought $230,000. A Classic White convertible with saddle custom interior and optioned out as M22, MA6, 3:08 drivetrain with PW, PS, PB, and lots of factory docs.
I have only seen a couple of '71 LS6 ZR2's bring higher dollars, as would be expected. This breaks the average sales price of previous standard LS6's that were typically bringing around $135,000. As some of you know, I've been involved with the survey/registry of these cars for more than 20 years, and I am excited that their time seems to have finally arrived. They tend to follow in the shadows of the '68, '69 L88's and those cars have increased dramatically in the last year. Currently I have 92 known/verified '71 LS6 Corvettes out of 188, so I am just about at the 50% level, unfortunately I did not keep track of the wrecked, burned, scrapped cars from years ago, although I know of some, and they are not in the present survey, so how many more I will locate in the upcoming years is hard to say. The breakdown currently is 52 coupes to 40 convertibles so the ratio of 2 coupes to 1 convertible for the '71 production model year doesn't seem to follow with respect to the LS6 cars at present.
Just to give some of you an idea, the Boss 429 engine option cost $1208.35, the LS-6 option cost $1220.70
Warren, it just goes to show you that great cars will still bring record money. The buyers are getting smarter and not overpaying for cars with issues, at least it seems that way to me. BTW I have been to the Bloomington Gold show and next years theme for the special collection will be the L88 Corvettes so I would expect to see a spike in their prices in the next twelve months.

Steve,
I didn't go to Bloomington this year, because of all the hype for the '57 'vettes. I'm not a fan of the solid axle years. However I'll certainly be there next year!!!!!! I just love L88's.
Warren, I too can appreciate the solid axle cars but they are not my cup of tea either. They did have Al Wagners LS6 coupe in the Hall of Fame section, I looks great. You need to find an L88 to bring to next years show http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

Steve,
I remember seeing Al's Sunflower yellow car when he was having it judged a couple of years ago there. I really made a mistake not buying an L88 a few years ago when they were a lot more reasonable in price (compared to present day). Last year I was looking at those 3 on the judging field very closely, listening to the owners discuss various nuances between them, it was interesting.
Warren, those three cars were are pretty neat cars. I just got home from the BG auction and I thought that overall prices were pretty strong with the most notable sale being the featured black/black 67 435 conv. formally owned by Roby Price. It brought 445K not including buyers premium.

I wondered how the auction went this year. Roby Price flew out to the first Russo & Steele auction held in Monterey just after the NCRS National and was there to bid on my '69 L78 SS Camaro convertible. He and Milt Robson went at it for awhile.

Hi Phil,
Actually, they came up to me afterwards and conveyed to me that they had miscommunicated to each other, otherwise the car would have had a different owner!

Hello Warren
I just got back home from Bloomington Gold show. I missed seeing you there. The white LS-6 was a Canadian car ordered new. The owner told me the information at the of the sale.

Chris,
I'm not sure you would want to set this new 1/4 mile E.T. record in this particular car. It was factory ordered as M22, MA6 & 3:08 ratio!!!!
But I do believe it might have set a good record at the Bonneville Salt Flat runs. Maybe the flying mile runs timed in both directions.

------Warren,,,I would have loved to run into you at BG. Finally went back at Danas insistence and had a lot of fun. Thought of you when I was looking at an LS6 rolling chassis (roadster) in Dick Ferrandos booth. Do you have the info on that one??? He had a bunch of paperwork displayed with it as well..........Bill S

Bill,
Yes, Dick called me needing a tough to find fuel line bracket for his LS6 ZR2. He has sent me copies of the factory paperwork. That is the sixth ZR2 we have found now.
I missed Bloomington this year, as I needed to get my other LS6 running, I've had it for over a year, in fact I bought it in unrunning condition. It had a bad camshaft/lifter, took me awhile but I managed to locate an original NOS GM 3904362 cam and 5232695 lifters for it.
I will definitely be there next year, hopefully we can get together again. Warren

What's the number on Dicks car? No paint roadster with docs. Roy Sinor wants 500Gs for the Ontario Orange one. Are they worth that much?
Bill, was that you driving Roby's L71 onto the stage? I was standing there with Bramati, but, didn't recognize you (if it was you).

Mark,
14708. The Ontario orange convertible had a decked stamp pad and modified racing suspension. That car was an export car originally. I bid the car to $210K back a couple of years when it went thru the auction at Bloomington Gold Corvettes. Does have an orginal Corvette Order Copy for docs. Ordered as M22, MA6, 3:55 ratio.

Warren,
I spoke to Roy on Friday and he told me the car has been returned to stock. Pretty neat old car as is Dick's no paint unit. The LS6 cars are neat.
Bill,
You were too busy when I saw you to do much yapping. That was fun to watch that car go through. Yeah, just like Murray to blow in and out quickly. Probably had a go-kart on his mind.

Mark
