anyone else get this email today from Hagerty Insurance?

"Hagerty wants to know:
WHAT'S YOUR VOTE FOR THE WORST VEHICLE DESIGN OF ALL TIME?

We want your nominations for the most unsafe, most poorly styled, most poorly engineered vehicles of all time (or any combination thereof)! Please submit the year, make and model of your (least favorite) choice to [email protected] Your submission will be kept anonymous, so feel free to give us your "worst" vote!

Submissions will be accepted until July 23. Check back at www.hagerty.com (http://www.hagerty.com) for poll results soon!"

Surely the Pinto is a no-brainer but I am really at a loss, so please give me some suggestions without insulting any Corvair owners.

Chris,
It's 1971 and my girlfriend (now my wife) needed a new car that was cheap but as reliable as possible with nice features. We looked at the Vega. Rubber floor mats, taxi-cab plaid interior and a 2-spd auto. Then we looked at a Pinto. Carpets, nice vinyl buckets and a 3-spd auto, and more horsepower, all for less money. I couldn't have been a more dedicated Chevy guy at the time, but I had to pick the Pinto for her. It held up for over 100Kmi and the only real maintenance was to replace the cam and followers (a known wear issue with those cars).

I think the winner will be an AMC product. There are a few good candidates.......

+++ Chris +++ I feel you have picked me out of the Crowd, you know '' Corvairs'' are << Un-safe at any speed >>, just ask our future president Ralph Nader..Style, and performance aren't very good either.... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif...Kasey

You know what Ken, I was thinking of older cars, but we're on the same page. The first time I saw one of those things, I thought it was the uglyist thing I'd EVER seen. I had to wonder what kind of mutation would buy a strange vehicle that looked like Darth Vader in the front and a garbage truck from the rear???? The guy who styled that "thing" should be taken out back and shot!

Having suffered through two of them, my vote would be the Vega. Honorable mention would go to the Chevy Citation, Chevette, and the forgetable Beretta. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif
The AMC cars were ugly, but not infamous for bad engineering. The Pacer was ugly enough to make a freight train take a dirt road, and the Gremlin had to be the worst name ever given to a car, even worse than the Dodge Demon.
Now there was a car that had some serious quality issues. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsdown.gif

We are in salt country and we still see Chevettes around. They weren't anything to write home about but I don't see much of anything else around that age. I saw an old video clip of a Model A Ford crash test. Pretty scary.

Gremlin ranks right up there with the Fish Bowl (Pacer).

Oh yeah! I forgot about those ugly things. BTW, don't
those vehicles remind you of the cars we all drew as kids.
Mine looked like boxes on wheels. Yeah! That's it! A Scion...

Go find any crayon sketches your kids drew of a car and tell
me they don't look the same.http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

As I was driving down the road today, I was reminded that there were a few models not being mentioned here, especially after I saw this going the other way:
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a146/ameyers215/x-90.jpg
The Suzuki X-90. Two seat hard top, t-top, part SUV, part Car, part 3 day old sushi that even an alley cat would walk away from.
The only thing that Comsumers Report found that was acceptible was the interior space, a 5 out of 10. The overall score awarded to this Japanese bad acid trip of a vehicle was 25 out of 100. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif The review was not complementary, to say the least. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif No wonder they were only built for 3 years.
If I dig way back into the memory vault, the Datsun B-210 would be next on my list, or any car that came off the line with Izusu on the side. There's a reason that they only build trucks now.
