Funny, when I first read this, I thought you were taklking about this car:

1970 Chevelle SS 454 auto, numbers matching with build sheet. Zero miles on body off restoration.Very rare column shift automatic with bench seat and Tach/Gauges. Correct original Fathom Blue,Black interior,White Stripes, and Cowl Induction Hood. Correctly detailed with Wide Oval tires, spiral shocks and assembly line marks. Tilt column, deluxe wood steering wheel, deluxe seat belts, original am/fm radio, and tinted glass, just to name a few options.

But, obviously a diff. car on this side of the map!

------I wish that guys with good looking cars like this would put "born with engine" in their adds if it is applicable. The way this fella has portrayed his car you just cant tell till you call him. Were Van Nuys LS6 Chevelle engines stamped where he says his is stamped, on the trans flange??? I cant say I have ever looked at a Van Nuys 1970 Chevelle. Pretty car, in any event.......Bill S

If that car had a 4 speed it would have a new home pending an inspection....but the color combination and equipment make it perfect for wife who likes to run errands quickly.

It would have been cool for my mother to pick me up from school in this car! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/drool.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/drool.gif

Appears to have been some type of Zone or fleet CMD car. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/headbang.gif

It looks like it was a Brass Hat vehicle to me.

Why might it be a Zone or B-Hat car?

Maybe because it was charged to Chevrolet in Salt Lake City http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Because if you look at the build sheet it was charged to Chevrolet Motor Division of Utah and not a dealership.

I see the Chev Motor Division in the lower left, but also the selling dealer. So, if it was not a zone car, would it only have the selling dealer down there?

I believe he was just one of the regional representives in charge of the western zone,so anything special had to go through him,and be billed/recorded accordingly.
A Brass Hat vehicle was one tapped for corporate use first. The reasons for this vary from anything like monitoring quality control,to a public demonstrator,to special favortism.
The zone 36 billing address backs this up as well as the 000 dealer code.
Technically Chevrolet Utah paid for it first, then it was delivered to Merrill Bean Chevrolet, and most likely driven around for a few months by a GM/Chevrolet employee, then later sold to a public consumer.
G R Browns name appears on other similar vehicles paperwork delivered out there as well.

"this 1970 chevelle ss454 was built in april of 1970 in los angeles, ca and delivered to merrill bean chevrolet (now john watson chevrolet) in ogden, utah. its first owner purchased it late in 1970"

Someone should hip this cat to the history of his car because clearly he doesn't know what it started out as.

If it retains the born in driveline that's a pretty good deal on a documented LS6 house car.Ole GR had quite a few courtesy cars,I think I have at least two other coupe sheets of his.

Selling may have only been a "courtesy delivery". When I used to have company leased vehicles they would deliver to a dealer for prep to the customer and receive a fee for this.

If it was retail it would have been an XXX,that car was internal order all the way.GM still has the CD,I ordered my 04 Z06 through a little internet dealer in Louisiana at like 100.00 over invoice and had it drop shipped at my local dealer in So Ca..at that time Ca. dealers were getting sticker so that's a great program since you already are paying GM shipping plus a hundred bucks or so for the PDI and save thousands off window.

Seriously though, I know the eBay pic will eventually die out and most likely the seller's link to it too, but will the posted shot of the genuine build sheet stay alive here?.
Just concerned as usual with the crooksters and their easy bake ovens of bogus documents as we certainly don't want to be the ones helping them fine tune their craft!.

Peter,
I am assuming you were directing that at my posting of the build sheet. Not that I mind that you bring that up but seriously I think some of us are getting a little paranoid.

This sheet was on ebay and I don't think my posting of it will teach a whole lot of fakers out there as it is readily available to those who want to abuse it. There are obviously exceptions to that such as posting Dana, Yenko or Baldwin documents as an example since those are very limited.

I agree whole hardily that we should not tell people what is specifically wrong with a fake build sheet but posting the sheet or explaining the Brass Hat/Courtesy car is going to far and just hurting the ones that would like to learn more about these cars. If we do that then I think Marlin would have nothing to do with all the research that he has provided us. At what point will we not divulge any information at all about a car or it's history for fear of the people that will abuse it? Like a burglar, if they want in your house they WILL get in. We just need to make it a little harder.

I am only responding to the general concern and not directing it back at you as you were only voicing your concerns, I just think if this keeps up we might as well stop discussing most of the information we divulge here. If the general population disagrees with me then one of the moderators should remove it.

Rick,

I wasn't criticizing you for your posting, just expressing the concern as I had noted..

Your response was nicely put also the mention of the easily available documents compared to the more uncommon ones does make perfect sense..

I enjoy these postings and learning too also certainly don't want any of it to stop either...it's just I've been paying more attention lately w/ the ways the crooks have been spending their time 'documenting' their cars also to the forgery experts that have evolved to provide the bogus paperwork etc so am perhaps becoming a little over protective?.

Marlin, thanks for asking http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif It's been a real struggle now that I am on this new therapy that my wife found for me. It involves her taking the Lion's share of my "Car Fund" and buying a new house, but leaving me just enough for a nice cruise night car. Then she takes me to the "Decor Center" where the builder gets her to take another slice of the "Car Fund" for "upgrades" we just "have to have". It's been difficult, but I think it ends in March when we take possesion http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I'm trying very hard to at least get an '03 or '04 Z06 in the garage before she takes any more! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

I'm not sure I've ever seen an astro blue 70 nova. I always thought ole Don missed the boat by not having some deuces done it that color. Either color of stripes would have been cool.

Astro blue Nova? I think there was one at the Harrisburg Nova Nat's in '01 with a sandalwood interior - cool car.
