The last few days they have been doing the curb and sidewalk over on our street and I have watched a real sweet 40 year old international dump truck deliver load after load of gravel. She was fully restored and yes not a muscle car but I appreciate any vehicle that is well kept.
Today when he was in front of the house I made a point to go to his side window and tell him how nice his truck was.
He appreciated the comments and said I also noticed your door open yesterday and seen some old 60's iron sticking out. I said yes there is a few impala there and a 70 chevelle.
Oh he says I had a 70 SS chevelle brand new. Loved it she was a 454 with the m22 trans. I bought it to race and traded in it on a truck in 1976. Should have never let it go he says. To this day I regret it. Same time I never took real good care of it by today's standards stripping off many of the original parts for speed parts and installing guages in the dash and how can I forget the shifter I had in it with the loop to hold my hand from going through the dash.
When he said all of this I was getting flash backs of when I bought my chevelle in 76 and there was no way there could be another shifter like that. I said was the car red with black stripes by any chance with a big set of ladder bars on it and wheel adapters in the front and did you trade it in at XXX.
Yes it was he said. I followed by your name is not George XXX. Yes it is.George I have your car and have been looking to talk to you for over 30 years. No way. I said yes sir.
We both freaked. Looks like George was in Ontario for the last 30 years and just moved back home after his mom passed last year to take over the old house and retire down here.
You know he said when I was in Ontario I was told my old car was still around in a barn in XXXX. Well George it is and even through it is not restored I will take you up to see it again. We have to talk and I want to know all you can remember about it.You know he says I think the original carb, steering wheel and a few other parts are still in the barn and I know I have the original paper work when I bought it as well as a bag of time slips.I will make a deal with you show me the car and the stuff is yours.
I didnot know what to say.
Hard to believe this could happen but true.
