I wanted to know if anybody on this site can tell me whether or not the 1970 factory 396 radiator was a bolt in or just set in rubber track. I have the original radiator harrison with markings OO IL dated J wich would indeed match all my date codes, but the tank does not have the bolt on side plates. I talked with a fellow from chicago who has had several nova l78's. He said the 70 cars had the bolt in radiator support, but the radiators were set in style. Does anybody have any information about this. My car was wrecked and I know for sure that the radiator support was damaged and replaced, but the radiator seems to be original according to the codes and date. I want to know if the brackets were removed or if it was made that way?? Thanks Motion396

Robby, as we discussed the codes are correct for your application....all of the BB radiators had mounting brackets that were attached to the tanks. These allowed the radiator to be bolted directly to the rad. support. There was no rubber mount underneath since the rad never touched the bottom of the support. I would suggest calling diferent rad. shops and see if anyone has any old cores or parts that might work....you might also try Jim at Heartbeat City..he offers a nice repro rad. and may be able to sell you the brackets separately...just an idea.

I've seen the brackets available separately on ebay.
