Saw this on eBay today and expect it's legit as I remember reading a few years ago when this car was found..
Don't know the car or seller or in any way am promoting this dealer...just like Heavys and thought it worth mentioning..
If the paper and tag is legit, it looks like the date's right in range...too bad on the color change resto though..

What is a Heavy Chevy anyways? A tough looking Chevelle with a 2bbl?

This one's been for sale on ebay several times over the past year by MW. A friend of mine in California used to own it. It is real, but much is incorrect, including the interior, added chrome trim, wheels, and paint color as Pete mentioned.
As far as what it is, it can range from the mundane 350 2bbl up to the same 402 as installed in SS cars. So, it all depends how someone ordered it. The base Heavy Chevy package is exclusively cosmetic, and built on a base coupe platform rather than a Malibu.

It was the birth of what would be years of sticker and tape job RPO's in lieu of actual performance one's.
Provided the sheet is real it's interesting that it's neither a zone or XXX order being a" pilot" and all.Would be hard to build that car for his BIN price..rather have a sleeper 70 LS3 malibu for around the same $$ jmho

I think I saw that car in the Car for sale area at Carlisle and it looked like a very nice car.

Speaking of Heavy Chevy Chevelles... I know where there is a white/black stripe one Buried in the ground in Reynoldsdale, PA.. I came across it back in '88 sitting back along a creek in some tall crap with a few other cars.. Faded original decals and paint on it.. It had been pretty well picked over and not much left.. Few years later the whole area had been bulldozed over.. Only part of trunk lid exposed.. I often thought about getting it out of there before it got plowed under but every time I went back to look at it I realized why I left it the time before.. One more gone.. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Interesting . . . I'm no Chevy guy, but I always thought it was Chevy's little submission for a Road Runner competitor. Granted, the '69 was like that somewhat because you could order the SS option on lesser Chevelles. And 1971 seems like a late moment to have an RR competitor. But Pontiac had their GT-37, and Chevy had their Heavy Chevy.

Yeah they were pretty plain as delivered..I had a big block one and it was no slouch to start with, and heh heh.. especially after I swapped in a hydraulic cammed 427 and 4.11's, urethane bushed the c/arms & kitted and convertored the t400 the trans. First time out after installing the oval port (only 9.25 to 1 compression) 427, no tuning, ran 12.74, as smooth as butter. Ran that number all day, 12.74, 12.76, 12.74..etc. On of the nicest cars to drive I ever owned, and it looked bone stock, oh yeah, only other thing I added(heavier but nicer looking) were a set of 70 Z28 wheels caps and rings.. left the factory decals on the aircleaner and rad support, painted the aluminum intake orange..the air cleaner hid the holley 850DP. Beat more than a couple factory big block SS's (the non-stickered up chrome emblem kind)
