Could be anywhere from 1957 thru 1967, most any model of Chevrolet car or truck, with a few exceptions of course.

Chad,
- Clean the pad on the extended block surface where it protrudes in front of the head on the passenger's side and report the stamping numbers you see...there's lots of guys here that'll happily tell you what the numbers indicate the engine was from..

Wasn't the base v-8 in early '67 a 283, at least for certain markets?

Hi guys, I read in "Chevy by the Numbers" by Al Colvin that there may have been a few export Camaros that may have been equipped with 283s (one of my favorite engines) but possibly due to emission regulations they were not avail in the US http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/scholar.gif

According to Tailfins & Bowties publication-
Chevrolet:
Production Figures & Option Totals - By The Book
by Len Williamson
There were no 283's in '67 for domestic or export use

According to "Chevy by the Numbers" there were a # of possible export 283 Camaros. Now Al Colvin actually came to one of the SuperCar Reunions and has pretty good info I would say there is a chance or more than a chance of an export 283 Camaro.

I remember seeing one for sale (an export Camaro with a 283 and the correct codes) not too long ago. All original ...not sure where... 'bout 7 years ago... maybe ebay... I think it was red. It might have been discused on ChevyTalk. I guess that doesn't help much. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Didn't we look at an eBay car or a link to one of these somewhere here about a year or so ago?.
Also, CRG lists smogless 283 Exports w/ MJ suffix Auto and MD Suffix Manuals..

I had a 1967 Camaro that was an original 283 pg col. shift blk dlx interior, royal plum exterior. Looking back, for a "nothing" car it was kind of a rare combo.
Mark.
P.S. It would probably be classed as an "export" car as it was sold originally in Victoria, B.C Canada....
