BTW, is that a Hemi emblem on the trunk of the blue '68 Road Runner in the old Atco shots?

Great photos! Thanks for sharing. I am trying to put together the histories of all of the 1968 Hemi Darts & Barracudas and this Wildfire Dart has got me stumped! I have other photos of the car but so far I do not know whose car this was? Does anyone remember this car or who owned it?
Thanks,

Hey Mark,

Interesting project you have there. Don't know this car. Looks to be an automatic and at the time of the photo (Mar 72?) it doesn't look like it had any sponsorship markings on it. What kind of numbers do you have so far (Darts/Barracudas) in your registry? What are the current accepted total production of each?

Good luck!

Hey Mark I blew up the photos of wild fire the only other markings on it was the class SS/AA witch I think meant super stock /Automatic there is no name on it the picture was dated March 1972 down at Acto
Here is a photo of wild fire engine

Whoever it was, he stole the name Wildfire from Mr. Ronnie Evans who was running a '62 Impala with the same name since '65. And BTW, his current Wildfire car just turned a 10.04 in heat. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

A friend and I have been at this for about 6-7 years now e have accumulated quite a bit of info. As for the original production run I would say 73ish Cudas and 82ish Darts - so far I have found no info with actual production numbers. Here is a photo of the Wildfire Dart from a track in MI (I have seen 3 photos of this car from MI tracks from 68-9). This appears to be 68 or early 69 as the car is still has steel wheels and is running SS/BA (where they were originally classed by the NHRA) and note that it has decals and what appears to be possibly a dealer sponsorship on the rear quarter. I have seen other photos from Cecil County from later that only have the Wildfire on the car. I am guessing that the the car originally was from MI and then sold to someone in the NE. The second owner probably removed the lettering & decals and raced it which was not uncommon at the time.
Thanks,
Mark Janaky

A guy I know through work claims his father was co-owner of Atco Raceway and Cecil County Raceway back in the 70s. Apparently, this gentleman has a ton of photographs and memorabilia. Every time I see him I mention Atco Raceway and that I would like to meet his father to talk and see the photographs. Maybe one of these days I will get a chance to talk with this guy.

It is a 68 - has fiberglass fenders, right hood & scoop, mirror delete appears to have a crossram - it is hard to tell from a photo but it sure looks like a Hemi S/S. Interesting to note that the scoop has only one support - they came with two - the only other car I have seen with one is the original "Mule" car - but I don't think that this is it - hmmmm stumped me agian, any idea where and when this photo was taken? Is any of the lettering readable in your photo? I am interested in this car as I have never seen it. Thanks,

Dog,
Ronnie said that photo of his Wildfire '62 had to be '88, not '84. Car wasn't even done in '84.

ALso asked him about the '62 sedan "Ditto" and he had no recollection of it.

This shot was taken at Islip Speedway, an 1/8 mile track that was located on Long Island, in '69 or '70.
I would have to find the slide to tell you exactly. If you need to know I'll track it down.
I remember the car as being from Queens - the door say's Jerry's Automotive with a Woodhaven Blvd,
Rego Park address.
It looks like the quarter panel says Colonial Auto Body with a Rockaway Blvd address,
which would put it in the same general area.
