Today is Patriot Day, when Americans pause to remember the tragic events of September 11, 2001. All government facilities will fly their flags at half-staff.

President George Bush has asked the American people to observe a moment of silence beginning at 8:46 a.m. Eastern Time “to honor the innocent Americans and people from around the world who lost their lives as a result of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.”

http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif To properly display the flag at “half-staff,” lower the flag to half the distance between the top and bottom of the staff. The flag must first be hoisted to the peak of the staff and then slowly lowered to half-staff.

Before the flag is lowered at the end of the day, it must be raised again to the peak before lowering slowly. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

Sincere sympathy to all those who lost loved ones on this day. You are not alone. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

"President George Bush has asked the American people to observe a moment of silence beginning at 8:46 a.m."

This is strange. At that time I was watching a PowerPoint slide show of photos from 9/11 sent to me by Don Stowers.

I left home this morning and stopped for gas. As I was filling up, I remembered I hadn't hung the flag on the front of the house so I ran back home and took care of it before heading to work.

I got that same slide show from Don, quite touching. I also hung the flag late last night and was happy to see how many people in the neighborhood had done the same. We too often forget. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

Many American flags flying at half-mast here in Canada today too...also proudly fly beside our Maple Leaf everyday!.

Our hearts and prayers go out to the families and loved ones of those lost on this tragic day also to those lost and still fighting today for what we believe in...freedom!.
