Looking for a '66 or '67 Nova/Chevy II...kicking around a new Pure Stock project for little bro...not sure if either year would be more favorable than the other, so I guess either is an option. Anyone know of a decent driver/project or (?) hemmed up in someone's garage?

An L79 oughta go 12s, right? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

Rob, have you checked with Dan and Bob about the 67 L79 Nova/Chevy II being ok? I heard there were only a few made in 67, so they may or may not accept them as being a legal pure stocker?

According to http://novaresource.org/production.htm there were only 6 of the 67 L79 325 horse Novas that were built, compared to nearly 5500 350 horse L79's in 1966.

Of the 6 built, at least 3 are alive and well. So, if they let a ZL1 vette run (of which only 2 were built), I can't see why they wouldn't let a '67 L79 Nova.

Well, ZL1 'Vettes can't run...but the L79 isn't exactly as exotic as the ZL1 engine, either! LOL!!

Are these 4-speed only? Any advantage to a post? Anything else I'm missing?

Look at this page for the Weights (http://novaresource.org/weights.htm)

You and your bro should have talked to Terrys uncle, Paul Pennington Friday or Saturday at Stanton. He probably has a line on just the 66 or 67 Nova you're looking for. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif

Guy here is getting out of the hobby & has three 66-67 Nova project cars and a bunch of parts. If someone wants to take everything off his hands, he'll cut you a good deal.

The 67 is an SS, six-banger with a M22. The 66 has a TH350 and (according to owner) an L79 engine out of another car. The other 66 is a roller parts car. He hasn't touched the cars for years.

PM me if you want his contact info (he's not into computers).

L88...that's the top tier allowed to run...the Mopar guys wanted the '64 Hemi, Chevy guys said "fine, then we'll build ZL1 Corvettes", so Bob/Dan nixed *both* of them...

I'm not sure of this, being the 1967 is so rare, but I do believe I was informed once that the 1967 L-79 Nova had a cast iron intake manifold with Quadrajet, saginaw four speeds and 10 bolt. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong on this. But if true, I would think that would narrow your search down to a 1966 model. I wanna say it was Car Craft, but back in the '70's, they were gonna implement some kind of new NHRA drag racing class that was 1967 and earlier and asked several racers opinions. Grumpy replied that with that cutoff year it would allow one year (1967) of the early Nova's and that since those cars are so light that would be the ideal car for the class. Even over the 1967-69 Camaros. There's something to get you pumped up!

Hadn't heard that about 67 L79 cars, but the part about having a cast iron intake and a Q-jet is a fact on 68 Chevy II L79 cars. My 68 Chevy II L79 car did come with a Muncie 4-speed and a 12 bolt rear end however.
