Somewhere on the board I read a discussion on the L35 as a hot street engine. I remembered I had this article in my stash discussing how to wake up the 325hp 396. Article is titled, "Bolt-On Horsepower For The Camaro" and features Dale Armstrong doing the tuning. Car is a '68 L35 Th-400.

Cool article! I'd love to see a car restored with all that Day 2 stuff on it. They got some nice gains too.

You know - it's odd that they chose the L/35 for that article.
I know they were much more prevalent, but the L/34 had a
forged crank, hot hydraulic cam, etc. and was actually
better suited for such a build.
Of course, as a kid, I think I only ever saw one or two L/34's anyway.

Thanks for the compliments guys. Just thought I'd stick a pic of my 68 Chevelle engine comp, in there, cause you don't see a lot of 68's with the correct smog set-up these days. I didn't mean to hijack the thread.......... and thanks for the article. I copied it and saved it for future reference.

Just finished reading the article and I'm sorry but 13.85 at 98 MPH is embarassingly slow for all that work. That's a pig. I mean that's everything too, 4.10's with slicks, open headers with collector extensions, and it barely squeaks into the 13's? Just imagine with the exhaust hooked back up and no slicks, well for that matter, it wouldn't even need the slicks. I know an L-78 will run it's ass off, but those small horse, hydraulic-cammed 396's are really lacking.

Best unmodified drag times were 14.09 @ 99 mph
