A friend of mine living in Chicago told me that back in 69-70 he didn´t see one single tri-power Nickey-car, and he saw many Nickey cars. Now they are all over.

Not top change the subject but did Nickey ever do 68 Biscaynes in a 2 door post. Reason I am asking when I had my 66 l-72 biscayne I pulled a l-72 out of a 68 427 biscayne which we eventually parted since it was rusted beyond repair. But I remember the car having Nickey badges and a Nickey sticker on side of the rear window in the corner.

On the Vette, is there supposed to be something special about it besides being an RPO L71 car sold at Nickey?.
Unless they've done it already, the best thing would be to yank the tank and look for the sheet?.

Your friend must have looking in the wrong places. Most Nickey sold Corvettes would have ended up in the surrounding affluent Suburbs. Not the Urban streets of the City itself. It was very much as it stands today, a different type buyer.

I have inspected numerous examples of original and restored Nickey sold Corvettes, to include L71s and a survivor L89 Convertible .

Nickey even Converted Corvettes, but none of those have been rediscovered, as of yet.

They also had very special race Corvettes like:

Like a 1956 SR2, "Nickey Nouse" '63 ZO6, A.J. Foyt ZO6 and some customer ordered specials.

They were the largest Car Dealership in Volume of total car sales, total parts sales and service work.

Sales Department had up to 50 Sales people

Service Had 25 technicians

Hi-Performance Dept Had 5 people

Parts Dept had 25 counter people

Ownership and Admistrative Staff was approx 20 people

Porters, wash and lube was approx 20 people



The largest volume Corvette Dealership of the late '60s and 70s title goes to Jack Douglass Chevrolet, in Hinsdale.

They sold many Tri-Powered Corvettes.

Thanks Pete for the info. Boy I was not good for the hobby back in my younger years. First I cut up the 4spd 70 monte SS that of course was never made and now maybe a Nickey 68 Biscayne.Thank God there were no ZL-1's down here for me to get at with the torch.Same time I never cut up a car that could be restored based on what was available at that time and saved more from the crusher than we chopped. I'm a reformed car killer too Mac...don't forget I'm the fool that worked at the boneyard during the glory years when the 'good stuff' was rolling in.. As I've mentioned here before, I put scads of Chevelles, Novas, Biscaynes, Cudas, RoadRunners, Rustangs etc...you name it into the press for the 'big money' of about $45-$50 a ton.http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif.

Back in the late 80's a local fellow by the name of Tom Kelly had a maroon/black 1968 L89 Corvette coupe here in Austin. This car was a documented Nickey car as per the zone and dealer information on the tank sheet. Tom and I tried to come up with an address for Nickey so he could make a reproduction window sticker. We had one heck of a time finding the address of the dealership back then. Tom moved to Phoenix and I haven't heard from him since. It was a cool car that I got a chance to drive a number of times.
Tom drag raced this stock L89 against a stock L88 and won two of three races. This was written up in some magazine in the mid 80's.
Anyone remember the article? It was definitely a Nickey L89.

Stefano, I don't know if I agree with that. I believe Chicago area dealers like Fencl Tufo and Long Chevrolet sold more cars than Nickey.
