Got a buddy that is looking for a 63 Impala SS. Anyone seen this car or these pictures before??

63 Impala SS (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevrolet-Impala-1963-Chevrolet-Impala-SS-409-Factory-425HP_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6169QQihZ007QQite mZ170159705795QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW)

Looks sort of scammy to me, but it might be real. Everyone has to have a first auction but why does it have to be a 409..... and so far away. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

------To you guys in the know on 62/3/4s, is that a factory radio block off plate??? Looks like home made, but I cant remember the last time Ive seen a 63 no radio car........Bill S

Bill,
The radio block off is from a Biscayne or Belair (no trim). IT should match the other dash trim. Green floors? That's a new one. Appears to have had a cowl air breather set-up and now is blocked off. Also noticed the wrong bell housing. Very odd the seller says he wants 11K for a completely restored car. Sounds very fishy. It is a nicely detailed car though with nice equipment. Should be worth 3-4 times that.(even with the errors)

PS: wish I could see the cowl tag....

Looks scammy alright but you never know?.
That statement of "The price I hope to obtain on this vehicle is 11,200" is a good sign someones looking for a quick deposit forwarded to them by someone (or more) excited guys in a rush?.
Also using 'the real deal' etc. in their ad seems off for a seller who mentions the low expected amount...maybe the ad's been 'lifted' from a previous auction?.

That's has GOT to be a complete scam. You could sell fifty of those at 11.2 and have guys lined up down the street to buy 500 more.

Shouldn't that have a screw top master cyl?

Verne_Frantz
10-17-2007, 11:32 PM
Yep! That's one of the most annoying restoration mistakes I see on '62s & '63s. They put tons of time and $$$ into a nut & bolt restoration, then go to NAPA and buy a master!! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hmmm.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hmmm.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hmmm.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsdown.gif
Just dumb!

http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gifVerne
BTW, that master on my '62 is still the original (even though I added the dealer booster kit)

I agree. Don't be surprised if the auction ends early. I did check all my records, including a separate dbase on every ebay car (58-64) that's been listed for the last 3 years, and the VIN doesn't turn up, so I can't add any history to it.

Luckily for me I can spot 409 clone "mistakes" a mile away. My dad did 409's for years and was involved in clubs etc and taught me every single little detail when it comes to those cars. I wouldn't be surprised if it had the small fuel line too.

bid at $9700. no reserve? how bizarre. too good to be true?

original factory correct zinc chromate green (sounds Navy) http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

The whole thing just sounds too good, too good to be true. The gold 63 automatic '09 from Michigan a month ago had a reserve of around 20 K or so. The 11,200 and an e-mail address just sorta stinks this up to me. I was really wondering if maybe these pictures were being recycled from somewhere else. I guess the thing to do is go ahead like it's for real, then take a trip to D.C. if it comes to that. Definitly no electronic money transfers on this one though.

This is the real deal, factory setup 425 horsepower from a high compression (11:1) 409 cubic inch monster fueling through two massive 4 barrel carbs. This is the setup Chevrolet delivered to Drag racers and NASCAR teams. 4 speed manual to the Positrak rear end. No extra weight, this Impala SS 409 is radio and heater delete from the factory. No horsepower drain, this car is manual steering. This car sounds mean through it's dual exhaust and it's not bluffing, it do go fast.

Now I'm waiting for the scam e-mails I'm going to get offering me the car at a "deal" price. This could get interesting..... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bs.gif

I noticed earlier that it was removed. Does anyone have the VIN of that car? I forgot to write it down, and I'd like to keep it on record for the future.

BY the way John,
I am in contact with the new owner of that anniversary gold '63 you mentioned and am waiting for my forms to be returned with complete documentation on it. The owner intends to keep it unrestored original as is. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Why would you keep the VIN. The guy probably did not own the car, but stole the pictures of another car.

I've never tried it yet but would a 'Wayback' search work now?.

Also, I'm no computer wiz but I did copy/cut/past the subject Vin and Google it to no result yesterday.. At the end of each day the history is cleaned out but if there's a way to still find it easily, I could try Verne?.

I and a friend in OH try to keep track of every 58-64 that comes up for sale with a vin. IT's just a way of keeping history on a car's migration through owners. We've already tracked some cars through 5 owners in the last 3 years....and the cars certainly have gone through some "changes" in that time. Sometimes we get an inquiry about a cars history or it's authenticity. IT's just a way of helping people. (at no charge by the way)

I just received this reply to my email to the seller requesting a photo of the cowl tag... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Hello

I'm really sorry for this late reply but I've been very busy lately and away from a computer. People think it's real funny to bid on a car and not pay for it and I have removed the auction because I had an agreement with a potential buyer. This person, which I do not know who it is has no answer to my repeated e-mails.I do not know what to do. The total price including shipping cost and insurance charges is $11,200 (shipping is payed in advance by me). The price is considerably lower then others on the market because I need to sell it really fast. The car has all the services done at the dealership. The vehicle was never crashed. I always garaged it and serviced it, kept very good care of it!.The vehicle is currently located in Potomac, MD but unfortunately I am in Anchorage, AK planning to open a business here and I don't think I can come sooner then next month. However I can arrange for the paperworks from here and I can talk to a shipping company to deliver the vehicle to your address.I think it's impossible to buy a vehicle for such a big amount without having an inspection first. So I had a look on eBay and I saw they could help us with this. Since the transaction worths a lot of money they've suggested to make the deal only through eBay so that we won't have any problems. If you decide to buy all the papers are ready, just needed to be signed by you. If you agree with these terms, please send me your full name, home and shipping address, ebay ID so I can register the transaction with eBay asap.
Thank you, Catherine Delaney

I understand why you would record the VIN on a legit sale but why this one. It will shed a negative light on a car that is probably very nice.

Jason, I think you misunderstand my intentions. The VIN would not be linked to that fradulent sale; only the fact that the car was advertised somewhere (in a legit sale) and it was a black on black SS with a 2x4 409, 4-spd, green floors, etc. "at that time". It's the same as if walked into a parking lot today, saw the same car and recorded the same info. IT is what it is at this time. I don't intend to link the car to that ebay seller.

Ohhh, the old "the car is in Maryland and I'm in Alaska story......"

Well the money for a nice 63 Impala SS (preferably a 327 300 horsepower, 4 speed car) is still in a bank account in Indiana. I'll be back after I check my e-mail and see if I got the same story.
