I saw this classified on another site but I am wondering what a car of this caliber is worth even with Hemi values dropping? $1 million, maybe 2 mill??? I have no idea but it floors me to see this stuff popping up like this.
Here's his post:
This car is the pinnacle of all muscle cars available for sale right now. See below and you'll know why.

* 1971 Dodge Challenger R/T Hemi
* Dark gold metallic with black leather interior
* Original owner car
* Original Window Sticker
* Original MSO paperwork
* Original buildsheet
* 1860 original, unmolested, and verified miles
* Hemi 4 speed
* Super Track Pak option
* 1 of 75 71 Hemi Challengers ever made; 1 of 58 4-speeds
* Original EVERYTHING, including the battery (THE battery), tires, spark plug wires, etc. Only the resonators and mufflers have ever been replaced.
* 100% original paint--never touched from new.
* Black leather interior with console
* Rallye dash
* Completely gone over by Galen Govier--One of his comments on the appraisal sheet was "This car is irreplaceable!" He graded it a "#1+" car in every category. You simply cannot do better than that. It's not possible.

This car has NEVER BEFORE BEEN OFFERED FOR SALE. You will never get another chance at such a rare Hemi E-body with this owner history, documentation, low mileage, and originality. Never. Once it's in someone's collection, it will likely not be heard from again for a very long time.

Had this been for sale a year or two ago, it would've easily sold for over $1 million, given all of it's positives. Forget about GNX's....this is the king of the mountain as investment muscle cars go.

If you are a serious player for this car, please contact me. Pictures and price available to those with demonstrated ability to purchase. Finders fee gladly paid if you bring me a buyer.

Price: Negotiable. Obviously, this car will not be for everyone, but for the discriminating and knowledgeable investor looking for a long-term home run, you will not be able to do better.

Didn't a member here sell 53 mile Hemi Cuda for somewhere around $650,000 a couple years ago. I would think this Challenger would sell for $400-500,000

Way cool car to be sure (if it checks out). Big pluses are the rare '71 Hemi Challenger, 4 speed, Super Track Pack, documentation, survivor condition. Detractors, color (not desirable) Challengers (for some reason) do not bring the money of 'cudas, am curious about the "Graded it a #1+" particularly on a survivor car. To my knowledge Galen's scale is 1 to 6 (with no "+" or "-")for each area of the car and then he averages the score for an overall score. My ruff unexpert estimate is a market value of $250 - 300K. Hey Rich P, what do you think?

Sounds like a neat car but that color is a real deal killer. I believe the name of the actual color is Tawny Gold Metallic and is not so affectionately known as "Baby S**t Brown" in the Mopar circles. I would say $300,000 on a good day but it would be hard to pull that kind of dollar at the moment. I would think if the owner was delusional enough to send it to BJ, it would sell for about $180,000.

I agree ,I hate the color.

like everyone has stated the color will kill the car, but to the right guy its still a 71 stick with super trac pack papers and ultra low miles, I dont know the car but if it all checked out to what was advertised Id give 225k with out giving it a second thought and then just sit and wait. I would have to agree with Steve on a good day 300k to 350k at the present moment, 1 1/2 years ago the owner could have pulled another 100k to 150k off it. JMO

The car never would have done over a million like stated though..

They say theirs an @#$ for every seat. Im sure he wants some out of this planet price. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Cool car,a VERY HARD color to sell. I have for sale an Original 1971 Unrestored Black on Black 4 speed for $325K

I think for his price I would buy a 71 Hemi Cuda !!! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/headbang.gif

I can think of a few other cars for more bang for the buck then that car. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

I am in no way affiliated with this vehicle.

Now, as far as the price, well here is the sellers theory about pricing:

"Because of what this car is, and because of the fluctuations in the market, it doesn't behoove us to lock ourselves into a price right now." http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Finally a price! Sink your teeth into this!

I have no idea what happened. On the first attachment, I downloaded it to my computer and then attached it. The second, I used the path from the server where the photo is stored. Baffles me why both would not work when stored in two locations unless a moderator removed them for some strange reason. Here it is again. http://www.yenko.net/attachments/296565-Hemi3.JPG

The car actually has a good look even with the color... maybe its the steel wheels (Im a sucker for them) I'll take it!

Now if I can get him down close to 800 billion we'll have a deal.

No kiddin! I think the color makes the car... definitely gives it a bad boy look that one of those more obnoxious day-glo colors wouldn't. JMO of course!

I'd bet if there was a similar condition brown COPO Camaro on here everyone would be drooling over it. I'm not a fan of the color, I do like Challengers but he's obviously fishing for a price IMHO. I wonder if he would let me take it for a test drive. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

That's a great photo but the color looks stomach-turning in person. And a matching brown vinyl top to boot! Ack!

Tawny Gold Metallic is nowhere near as nice as the GM Burnished Brown color. That, at least is a legitimate brown color. This is more of a Guldens Mustard meets the day-after, Chile cook off, bathroom explosion, color.
But hey, that's just one man's opinion. http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i30/nk15268a/StanSick.gif

One of my friends in high school, way back when, had a 72 Road runner that color and it was just horrid up close.

You sure it wasn't the 72 roadrunner that was horrid, not the color? j/k... I DO like that color on that car, sorry. Don't mind me though...I also like fathom green, burnished brown, frost green, ivy gold, gobi beige, and all the other alleged "horrid", "value killing" colors of the chevy's too...

Did someone say Gobi Beige??? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif It's the coolest color around, this Challenger is a close second - I love the color!

Suppose I'd have to see it in person (see MacGyver's comments above). But, from that photo, I like what I see. Sure it is not a "high impact" color, but I like the stealthy dressed down look to it. I will still stick with my original estimate (all lacking in any kind of knowledgeable foundation http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif )

LOL, but Joe, how good would that color look on one of the (5) 1972 440-6 Road Runners built that year? hell, you could spray those cars with the bottom of a bucket that has water with cigerette butts and we would all take one!

i think the Golds and Browns are finally getting respect in the market. hell, i look at VIN's on mopars every chance i get and it seems every factory gold/brown/light yellow car is now red or blue. the Challenger looks beautiful in the pic. painted steel wheels look terrific!

How can you tell colors by looking at VINs???

While not my first Choice, It does look killer in the pics.

Being stuck with a Ash Gold Camaro for 23 years may have affected my judgement......BUT...Those colors are beautiful! Gotta go with the earth tones.....I look at a lot of GM trim tags and see lots of gold and green...Now red and blue.... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I think the car looks great, and i also like the color, ihave a friend that owns a low mile all original 71 4 speed challenger that is orange with orange houndstooth interior 4 speed, he also ordered it new and it shows 14000 on the odometer i believe, i think the 71 challenger is neck and neck with the 71 cuda very COOOOOOOOOOL..

Jeff H

That Hemi looks pretty good in that brown color. He should have taken some better pictures to take advantage of the sun. With all the green Camaros, Firebird and GTO's out there, brown looks pretty good and give it a metallic tint and it's even better.

My superbird is Tor-red, although i really wanted one in B5 blue i would never consider changing colors as it still retains its original paint. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

I think it's interesting that some people have a problem with the color. It was a popular color for sedans and musclecars alike, like many earthtones that were popular during that time. While not red or a High Impact color, surely it's better than the '69 brown that some have brought up. I for one am not a fan of Tawny Gold, but under certain sunlight it really looks nice. The brown, in comparison, looks like a proper brown and is more drab. I think if it wasn't on a Camaro, people would feel differently.

Although I love the High Impact colors, I personally love that color, especially on the 71. Back in the day, my Dad had a 71 GTX in Spanish Gold with the same brownish top.

Go wing, chin spoilers, console mounted cassette, 15x7" Road Wheels and a whole lot more. I would LOVE to get my hands on that one now!

After he turned in that one, he had what may well be the gawd-awful worst 71 GTX ever built; Sand Pebble Beige with a brown interior, a black top and (cough-cough) 14" RWL Polyglas RWL tires with (ugh!) those hideous wire-wheelcovers! As a kid I can remember wondering how could one 71 GTX be so cool while another was so ugly?

Now THAT is the definition of Fugly!

Bizarre times back then, for sure. I think there were as many people rebelling against the psychadelic era and its wild colors, as there were fans of it. So it looks like your dad was the former. He ordered that beige GTX as a political statement against non-conformity.

My dad on the other hand ordered our 1972 Plymouth 9 passenger Suburban wagon in E-5 Rallye red with black interior and with a dealer installed black hood stripe. It even had the foam "Tuff Grip" steering wheel in it. I wish I knew where that car was now it had to be a one of one. It was a cursed car. It was hit approximately 15 times while we had it. It was the strangest thing. You could be sitting in the middle of an empty parking lot and someone would drive right into it. They would always say: "I never saw your car, where did you come from?" For some reason it was invisible to most people. Total lemon too. The power rear window washer unit was just thrown into the rear tailgate and never even installed on the assembly line...just a handful of parts tossed in and clanking around. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ouch! That does seem kind of fugly! I'm also partial to high impact colors, but I've got a black on black '71 GTX that's not too shabby - spoilers, wing, Air Grabber, 4 sp, Track Pack, etc.

Nice Challenger. That wouldn't be my first choice on color, but still a good looking car.
