Not that one. Its in the NOVA SS book by Steve Statham. It has a Forest Green Deuce on the front cover. It looks like it was Red with a white top. But the white one in the background is awsome!

The Nova in the above pic has not been found to my knowledge, I started a post about it a year ago - to no avail.
The 'slot machine' giveaway Nova is also mia, apparently an L34 car.

Any original enrty forms out there?
Cool Nova pictures and story behind the hurst car! I thought I would post a pic of my original 72. It was a decently optioned car. A/C, 350 2 barrel, power steering, power disc brakes, rallye wheels. Would the only difference in my car and a SS be that a SS would have had a 4 barrel intake/carb, black grill, and the ss rear panel? The 70 year old lady I got it from let it sit for 10 years. I did a basic tune up, went through the fuel and cooling systems, and it's been a great driver. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Post up some more nova pictures!

Not to nit pick, but what about the argent silver filler panel between the bumper and grill. Eh hem.
I have noticed at about every car show, most people paint them the body color.

If you're talking about my Nova, I don't claim responsibility for that. It was done incorrectly by the previous owner when it was Black Cherry.
However, now my Nova is silver..... so it again that filler panel nearly matches body color. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I think they were trying to draw a Hurst wheel with white lettered tire on the front of the giveaway car. Good eye on the back wheel, had not noticed that b4!
Schonyenko2
10-30-2007, 06:13 PM
The wheel/tire combo on the back appears to be a SS rim, and (hard to tell) white lettered tire. I was told when I ordered my nova new in 70, that the SS rims were not available. Ralleys only. And no raised white letter tires. White stripe only. I would like to see a 70 window sticker with the SS wheel option listed. I'm not saying there weren't any,but I've never see any that I could verify as came from the factory as an option. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif
Those Hurst auto sticks actually work pretty well after you get on to the diagonal pattern. Look nice too.

I know the white stripe E 70 14 was the only available tire for the 70 Nova SS, as the E 70 14 Redline was the standard tire for 69, no lettered tires in either year I beleive. Anybody out there with a 70 broadcast sheet or window sticker showing SS wheels.?

My option paperwork only shows the ZJ7 option described as "Special Wheel, Hub Cap and Trim Ring". I've seen this option on window stickers, but have never seen the SS wheel option listed - but would not know the option # if I did see it. So, does anyone have the option number for the SS wheels from a Camaro or Chevelle window sticker? It should be same for the Novas. Ed in RI has a bunch of window stickers for SS Novas, so perhaps he can check his stash for this code.
Schonyenko2
10-30-2007, 10:03 PM
The window sticker on my 69 SS chevelle shows option 6Z25AA as the inclusive SS package with the SS wheels, and raised white letter tires. The SS option on my 70 SS nova lists SS items, but does not specify a wheel designation. I had to order the ralley wheels separate from the SS package.

Ah! I see the N66 option on my option listing from GM. So, I wonder if anyone has seen the N66 option on Nova window stickers?
The 69-70 Super Sport Chevelles had the magnum 500 wheel,(aka SS wheel),automatically included in the Super Sport package,so it won't show up as a seperate RPO code on the window sticker or buildsheet.
Their buildsheets denoted the SS center cap design though,(be it early bolt on or later push on),and raised letter or striped tires used on the wheels too.
Their window stickers & car shippers merely list,"sport wheels" under the Z25 or Z15 equipment.

I see in the assembly manual that It shows N66 as an option on the 396 models. In the box (MOD) second one down all the way to the left it states 11427 "396" ENGINE. I also noted that the center caps went from "bolt" on to "push" on type yet not sure when in the model year this change took effect. The manual says redrawn and redesigned on Sept. 9th 1969. Maybe this was a way for Chevrolet to make the 396 cars a step above the 350s. I do know that the push on ones are alot harder to come by. I do feel that the SS Novas could be ordered with SS wheels in 1970. Do the Yenko Deuces have the push on center caps and did Don place his "Y" over the SS decal? I was always curious about that. I know they are a late year 70 car being built in 1970.

Many of those resource books also state that 311 L89 novas were produced, and we've found maybe one. Not everything on those lists were gospel.I do remember trying to order them, and was told no. I don't remember ever seeing any other novas back in the day that had them either, but we all day 2'd them about as soon as we got them. Somebody needs to dig up a window sticker. I want to believe. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

If you look closely at the red 70 Nova SS car in the 1970 Nova dealership pamphlet/brochure, I believe that the red Hurst Jackpot giveaway car is a picture of the same car but they just drew in the white lettered tire and cragar wheel on the left front... I'll bet that is what they did to advertise the car....

[/ QUOTE ]
The Deuces were built in late May and early June of '70. The Magnum wheels on the Deuces were ordered directly from MotorWheel by Yenko, as well as the centercaps. The centercaps have the Magnum 500 plastic insert with the raised crossed flags, and are bolt on's. The Y decal was placed over this plastic insert, and when closely observed the raised flags can be seen through the thin mylar decal. On some original cars, the chrome has come off of the mylar decal, and you can actually see the plastic insert. Not all deuces received the Y decals, as one car simply had a handful tossed onto the front seat - apparently Yenko was annoyed that the buyer insisted on the wheel change like the brochure stated! So, that opens the door for the possibility that some Deuces sold at Yenko might not have had the Magnum wheels installed!

I purchased my L78 Nova SS in 73. It had 14 inch Steel rims ( body color ) with moon like hub caps with the Bowtie in the center. Raised white Uniroyal tires. Owner said this was how the car came. I changed to day 2 Cragars pretty quick....

That may be the old Trenton NJ Raceway.
I have some old home movies from 1970, both USAC and NASCAR, along with some full races (the track closed in 1980). I can't be sure, but I think that may be Trenton.
Michigan International has a banked straight on the tri-oval, and I don't see that in these photos.
Will be posting some footage to YouTube shortly, and I'll look to see if the Nova is in there too. There's one scene where this guy filmed the Chrysler 300-H from the infield as it passes by before the race, very cool footage.
I have several home movies Linda Vaughn on the back of the 69 H/O from NASCAR, NHRA, and USAC races. Amazing how many people pointed their old Bell & Howell Super 8mm film camera at her when she cruised by!
