I am slowly but surely getting addicted to Youtube. I am finding stuff on there I haven't seen since I was knee-high to a sparkplug. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

What I'm really surprised by is a lot of the amateur musical talent on there. (I'm a musician myself)

Here's one example: Anybody up for a little Boogie Woogie Piano (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBt8UeOw924)? (this kid has obscene talent...his first 4 vids are his best IMO)

I could put up music links all night, so for the sake of brevity, I'll leave you with this outtake clip (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qqE_WmagjY) from the Carol Burnett show.

What's on y'all's favorites lists?

There will never, ever be another SRV (my primary guitar influence, God rest his soul), or Robin Trower.

Seems like today, all guitarists care about is speed playing. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with "shredding" (as I guess it's called these days), but it does get boring rather quickly. Compare that style to, say, B.B. King, who can hold one note for 16 measures, and it'll bring a tear to your eye. THAT'S what music should be about, not flash and fretboard gymnastics.

Speaking of B.B., here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNHefgXMZKA) is a rather well-known little number featuring "The King", and another rather talented guitarist, Gary Moore.

Enjoy.

As a musician and a small time producer I appreciate everything (except rap) The difference is these guys can do everything that the best quitarists have done and whole lot that no one else can. Their work on the fretboard is not rambling but carfully planned work through complicated scales and emulation of the masters from bach to SRV.
Its all good.......

Here is the trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fm_3-o6QWuk) to my favorite B-movie of all-time. This one's so bad it's good lol.

Here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtjfYKA1pBE) is the trailer for the B-movie of the first B-movie on the DVD (would that technically make it a "C-movie"?? lol!) The "special effects" on these two movies are absolutely hysterical. As an added bonus, there is a feature soundtrack on the C-movie by none other than Neil Sedaka, and it's almost as bad as the movie itself. (Neil must've been hurting for rent money or something. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif )

OMG, thanks for that Stevie Ray/Jeff Beck MTV video of "Goin Down". Truth be told, I'm not a dedicated fan of either, but that whole thing flat out SMOKES.

Reminded me of one of my favorite dueling guitarist videos, including this one featuring James Burton and a host of other worthy candidates:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yguERAkjaic

As long as we're on guitar stuff again, here's a clip featuring the guitar solo that hits me the hardest, its as close as a guitar can get to expressing an aching hunger. Song was written by Kris Kristofferson, its called "I've got to have you"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ertn_x_nvxo

Don't mind the fan video, or question the singer. Just wait until the solo at about 3:30 or so.

All this talk of great guitar players especially SRV makes me think of a very special Saturday night back in 1982. I had been trying to get a local club owner to let my 8 piece blues band play at his club "Rockefellers" It was the top blues club at the time. I had tickets to see Stevie Ray and Albert King that night. About 3:00pm I get a call from the owner telling me that Albert King had canceled and if we want to open up for Stevie Ray be at the club by 5:00. Needless to say we were there. Stevie was not a house hold name at the time and still on a local label called Lunar 2 records. It ended up being my 15 min of fame and a killer night of playing the blues with one of the best blues guitarist every to live. I think I still have a recording of that night somewhere.

This is a cool thread, I have been playing in Youtube since it started.

I play a little guitar, and agree that Stevie Ray Vaughn is wihtout a doubt the greatest. I have never seen anyone so emotionally connected to his guitar. You can hear it.

Didn't see anyone mention Randy Rhodes (Ozzy yeears). I can only imagine how good he could have been!

Thanks for the thread! Brought back a lot of great memories thinking about the music from my high school days.

Wish both of these guys were still around. I think rock and roll in general would be better.

Another boring sunday spent perusing Youtube, and once again, I've stumbled on something that stopped me in my tracks.

Check this kid out:

Link (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfqu4YEufYc)

For those of you with ADD ( http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif ), watch the whole thing...it starts to get good around 1:00 in, and by 1:15...

Dayum. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Matter of fact, check out his other 2 videos as well. There's some rather "interesting" commentary left on one of them...jealousy can be such an ugly thing lol.

Enjoy
