I'm about to send my 1972 Nova out to be painted and have to choose what color I want the car to be. Before, I had my heart set on red, but now I'm really starting to like black. Did novas ever come with a red interior? If the car was black with the red interior, no chrome, and redlines with dog dish hub caps, it would look incredibly tough. The only way I will paint it black is if I could get a red interior for it. So what were the interior color options for novas?

Steve- Good to see you on the forum...
Who is painting the car? What was the color originally?

69 was the only year you could get a red Deluxe interior. All of the 69 stuff will fit your interior as long as you don't have the high back buckets. If you have a bench, you're as good as golden. The only thing that may be different are the A pillar mouldings. In 69, they were padded, and 70-72, they were metal. But you could also paint them any color you wanted. But, yeah that would be a sweet ride!

Good luck with it!

Sounds good..But what about the dash pad and all of that? Would there be a fitment issue trying to put the 1968 pad in the 72'?

Hey Dan, Angelo and Joey's is painting the car. They are off of Palmer Ave. near Walters Hot Dogs. The car is getting new quarters and a trunk lid. I'm going to the body shop tommorow to pick out the color, so I need to figure all of this out now. The rest of my week is going to be spent stripping the car to get it over there by next week.

A member here recently acquired a '70 Nova that was originally
black cherry paint & a saddle interior. I have to admit that
this is a unique combination to say the least. You might
consider this.

A 68 pad is all by itself, but unless you are a stickler for grain texture a 69 will work in a 72..BKH

In the Nova, the dash pad grain is the same from 69-72. In 73-74, it changed to a different texture. However, they are directly interchangeable.

Don't think that the 68 pad will fit a 72...?

The entire dash is different in the 68. The 69-72 will fit fine. Good luck with the interior, you could always go with the day 2 look http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif.

Does anyone know where I could get the dash pad and red seat covers. It is a bench seat car. We are doing a th-400 on the colllum and rubber carpeting. This is a plane-jane, bare bones car.

Yea, my old man would kill me if I did that. Next time he goes away for a few days I'll have to recover the COPO's seats with that stuff. Wouldn't that be a nice suprise?

Try Classic Industries if you want something in Repro. I just bought a whole red original Deluxe bucket seat interior from a local guy. The interior was almost perfect. Thinking of building a Cortez Silver with Red interior for my 69.

PUI will make you a stock interior for a small extra fee. I just had a white one made for my 69 Nova. They did a stock appearing one for 150.00 over their retail price.

I am in need of the seat tracks though. I am amazed that this guy couldn't get rid of it. It took me a while, but it was too nice not to accquire. I was thinking about using it in the blue 69 I just bought. I would paint that one Silver.

Good luck finding the tracks, they usually go for big bucks. Might want to just modify a set of Chevelle tracks.

They're shorter from front-to-back by an inch or so.

Black/Sandlewood? Sounds awesome - never saw one b4, but I know it looks great in a 'vette. Gotta pic?

I too am restoring a 72 Nova, but I want a blue interior for my car. The reason I bought this car, is that my dad bought a 72 brand new, and mine is optioned identical to his car except for the color combination. I was going to restore it to look like his car. Is there a company out there that is reproducing a complete interior kit in blue for a 72 Nova? I have found them for 69 and 70 but no 72. My dad's 72 Nova was blue with a white painted top, and blue interior. See attachment for a car similar to his.

A white painted top? In '72? I thought the last year for the painted tops was '69 or '70, no?

I have seen other 72's with white painted tops

Andy

Yes, it had the white painted top. My dad still has the protect-o-plate, confirmation of sale sheet, which basically listed all options that the car has and states the payment installments, Chevrolet passenger cars and trucks new vehicle inspection procedure, and the GMAC payment book.

That's cool, I didn't know that painted tops were available through '72 - I thought they stopped after '69. I think the painted top is a neat option.

That car is awsome! I know exactly what the trim codes would be for that car. It would be code 26 11 with a trim code of 756 or 757. The 756 would be dark blue cloth with bench and the 757 was the custom vinyl with bench. Do not confuse that with the deluxe interior because it had the standard door panels and the vinyl was like "tuck n roll". 70-72 were the same dark blue vinyl. 70-71 were the same cloth and I think in 72 the cloth changed patterns a little bit. My first car was a 71 with code 26 26 and it had a 756 interior code. NO ONE is reproducing that interior at the moment. I repeat NO ONE. I have done quite a bit of research on that trm code for the interior and the only thing you can do at the moment is get all the vinyl and the cloth from SMS auto fabrics. Don't get the repro stuff because the blue ins't even close to what the original is. The 70 I am doing right now is going to receive the blue vinyl and cloth. I have only seen a couple on ebay with that interior and none at shows. Keep that combo! I LOVE IT!

Me too. If my current 72 had a painted top instead of a vinyl top from the factory, my rust repairs would be much less extensive. Nobody reproduces a roof skin for 68-72 Novas either, right?

I can't find the original thread for this but, here are a couple of pics of the the blue paint on my 69 Nova dash bezel. The second one is kind of hard to see because the vent panel looks like the same color.

Interesting. So, only the extreme left portion of the bezel is blue - to coincide vertically with the other blue pieces?

I also noticed that the inside of the window frame on the door is blue, which follows the model for the '68 & '69's!

This is the first time I have ever encountered this. It doesn't appear to be painted after market because the metal screw furrel is still black. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

I've seen the outside edge of the dash bezels painted other colors before.

I parted out a '70 Nova four-door with a blue interior that was done that way. Also a '69 with a green interior had a green end on the bezel.
