Had the carb off today and saw this hole in the bottom of the plenum. Stuck a model paint brush in and went in that deep and hit bottom. Car runs fine.

Why is this hole there? It looks like it was cast that way.

Older Holley "Street Dominator" intake, right?

I believe that's the passage where the EGR wound enter the plenum had the intake been fitted with an EGR valve. Speaking of which, it appears that the EGR mounting flange (behind the carb mounting flange) is open--are those holes blocked off or not? If not, the engine may have had had a sizeable vacuum leak from that hole in the plenum to the open EGR mounting flange. One easy way to find out...put the carb back on, start the engine and see if there is a vacuum leak at the EGR mounting flange. If the holes are blocked off, disregard.

Yes Eric, it's a '70s Holley Street Dominator and those holes behind the mounting flange are blocked--no vacuum issues. That hole just got my attention. Thanks for the explanation and I look forward to putting on the 3310 you built up.
