------Hey Rich,,,This is not meant negatively at all but did 68s have the short-hat rally wheel centers or the tall-hat ones when new??? I like the short-hat as you have this car pictured better, but am wondering........Bill S

Bill, on this car it is really a moot point because the rallys are added. Although the car came with many factory options, rallys were not among them. I believe that the '67s required rallys with disc brakes.

68's use the taller Derby style cap. The short "disc brake" style was for 67.

I would agree, the short-hat rally wheel centers were 1967 Chevrolet, Camaro, Chevelle, and Corvette only, and I believe it had to have Disc Brakes to get them from the factory.
I restored and sold a Grotto Blue RS/SS 396/350 Convertible in 1995 that was loaded kinda like this car with A/C, P/S, P/B, P/T, TH400, Pearl Custom interior, Console, Gauges ect. and it had DRUM Brakes? No Rally wheels. Mr. Moorehead from the old Camaro Club estimated it was 1 of 200? optioned like it in 1968. It just did not make any sense, but they built it any way.

I have had a few 67 and 68 SS cars with drum brakes. I think you could get rally wheels on any 67 Camaro. There is another rally cap that does not say disc brakes on it.

In a way that is true but only if it was ordered with disc brakes. The drum brake rally wheel did not become available until 1968. That wheel was coded XN and was available in 1968 and 1969.
In 1967 there were only 3 rally wheel styles available for the Camaro. The 14x5 DA coded rally and the 14x6 coded DG and the DF coded 15x6.
The DG was the rally wheel that came on SS models when disc brakes were ordered. The DA rally was found on base models when disc brakes were ordered and the DF was found on the Z/28.

Thanks Rick. I wish people would talk about how RARE this car is and not about the center caps !!! LOL

For the price of this car, people were buying Z/28's. You couldnt buy a car like this and restore it to this caliber for less.. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Does anyone keep a registry on these cars? At this time I know of only 4 '68s with docs and it's only hearsay on 2 of those. I believe the '68s must be the rarest of all the L78 rags. Anyone else know of any of these with docs?
