RIP EVEL http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif
GOD HE WAS FUN TO WATCH!
The man was just as much a part of Americana as were hotdogs back then, and often times he was called one too.Seeing as most of us are children of the 1960's-70's,I'll bet many here never expected him to come anywhere near the age of 69,after hearing the announcers shreak for an ambulance after anyone of his off balanced landings.

I for one hope he is jumping clouds today,as he was a formidable inspiration for many an American pre-teen male to procure the sidewalk plywood ramp w/cinder blocks & liken it to Caesars or the Snake River Canyon on any given Saturday afternoon back then.
Thank You Evel http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

It surely is incredible he lived as long as he did. He was always taking it to the next level, a true pioneer. I've only broken one bone so far, he must of been a tough SOB to endure as many broken bones as he did. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

I thank him for all the bikes I wrecked back then....Every kid in town got there StingRay or Huffy to fly one way or another .... without helmets and all the saftey crap....... Do kids even ride bikes anymore? Just think of all his broken bones plus those of every kid that wanted to be EK.......What a era to grow up in.We sure had a ton of fun! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

Just look at that bike: zero suspension travel upon landing! Today's jumpers have such good bikes. Ol' Evel had BIG BRASS ones to jump those old Harleys as high and as far as he did. No wonder he broke so many bones.
I'll never forget the Saturday ABC Wide World of Sports coverage of his jumps.

I grew up watching him every chance I had. Growing up in Logan Sqaure....area of Chicago. We would make ramps out of the biggest and heaviest doors we could find and jump over numerous 55 gallon drums. I have many of scares on my knees as these memories of Evil Knievel live within me. RIP.
Dan.
I read his bio a few years back what a cool book, he came from nothing and catapulted to a world wide name by entertaining all of us. A true legend before his time, now we have X - Games.

Growing up in the 70's he was a GOD to me. I had all of the action figures and toys...My friends and I jumped our bikes over everything. I toyed with the idea of taking the BMX bike down off the wall in the Garage and setting up a jump last night in his honor.

he has to be one of the biggest icons of his era. we were so caught up in his jumps us little dorks had a blast jumping everything in our neighborhood. we had a 10-12' gully. it must have dropped about 6-7'. we must have busted 4-5 bikes trying to jump that place off our home made ramps. the sight of a bunch of huffy's with sissy bars, shift handles right before our banana seats would probably make me wet myself laughing today. finally one of the older guys made the jump in his schwin. the neighborhood celebrated. this is truly a sad day. rip and thanx for the good times (evil)

------One cool guy!!! Used to see Evel out at the bars in Ft.Liquordale. He was one hard livin guy. If you think he only punished his body on the jumps, think again! Must have been self medicating with all those shots, LOL.........Bill S

He was The Man!.
I learned all I know about being cool from Evel:
Here's me in 1970 imitating him...

And here's my bike today...

At least the bike still looks the same.
God speed Evel http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif
Ha!...Had that same Chopper in 1970,only mine was black.
And we had that 66 FORD Country squire station wagon too in white w/red interior..

The black ones are super rare. My brother had one with the dual shifter 5 speed and the tall sissy bar. The dummy sold it at a yard sale years later for $10. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif
Maybe at the next reunion everyone can bring their original bikes and we can have a real 1/4 mile race - complete with jumps and wheelies. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

We can go on my paper route and then run my slot cars! I'll ask my mom if you can stay for dinner. I think we're having tuna casserole.

Steve I had one of those Choppers with the two shift levers, I believe the little one was an emergency brake on the 5 speed. weird?
http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/scholar.gifThose bikes were really unbalanced for wheelies as evidenced by the scar on my elbow! and they nose dived on any jumps over three feet!
