I am doing a complete nut & bolt restoration on my 69 Camaro. Original auto BB car, Olympic Gold with Green, 723 I think, interior. I definitely do not like the color combination and want to paint it Lemans Blue/black int. The original seats are in very good condtion except for being soaked in mice piss so I will have to replace them anyway. My buddies have mixed emotions. Some say definitely ORIGINAL-worth more, others say paint it what you like. I will have well over 40k invested when this is done.I would appreciate some feedback. Please and thank you. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

as ugly as it is, your car represents the styles and options of the time period. I say leave it as is. If you're going to change something, maybe replace the green interior with black. Olympic Gold is a great color.

Keep the colors, The car will look alot different to you with a killer flat paint job and new guts.

I might be able to live with Oly Gold /Black int. The other thing I forgot to mention, its a t 400 on the column and I'm thinking doing a 4 or 5 speed. Any thoughts on that?
Thank you, http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif
Honestly,if you're really that concerned about the financial return,I would sell it right now as is and find another car/color/options you prefer for the long run.
Otherwise I would restore it just as the factory built it and take pride in it,as I like your color combo/options.

I love the gold exterior, the green inside is alittle diffrent but still cool, maybe due a black interior, that would look sharp.

Any car restored well looks good to me. That color combo of yours is quite an attention getter. Keep it as is and let the fellow who buys it off of you make the change - it would not be hard to do. Leave the column shifter alone and there are NO stories. I assure you, you will get alot of buzz at the 1st car show you go to. Now find out who the 1st owner was and get the low down on why he/she ordered it that way!
Have fun. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

I just can't see it but I will probably go with the "majority" opinion. It is a desirable vehicle.
Maybe I should put her back like she came. And I have brand new rebuilt M20 with correct shifter!

No brainer. Gold with green guts... That combo sounds cool to me actually. Do this one right, and keep it stock...I'd try to de-mouse piss the original seats too, as they will look alot better than repro covers. I love the dark green standard vinyl in a 69. Black interior is boring with a capitol B.

Talk to the guy you bought it from and see if he can give you info on who he bought it from, maybe he has a number for the last owner, can not hurt to ask. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif
...the original owner probably DID NOT ORDER the car....they probably walked into the dealership
...saw a big block camaro with a big discount
....and because they were COLOR BLIND...thought the car was TAN WITH BROWN INTERIOR...
.... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif
...just kidding....on the other hand ....if you sell the car as it is and put with that amount ..what you would spend on the restoration....you could buy a nice finished car and drive it next spring.....just a thought http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Do you want a car just like half the others out there or do you want something a little different? You can go to any car show and see all the blue/black cars you want. How often do you see a gold/green car? Keep it original.

I remember a Copo running around Toronto in that color it wasn"t that bad looking but if you cannot live with the colors I would sell the car before you start the resto and try to find something you can live with. If you hate it now you will hate it when its done.

Paint the tail panel black, install a Hurst Dual Gate shifter, buy some Yenko stripes/ badges. Maybe you'll be the 1st to do a OG tribute/recreation. They bring pretty good $$ at the auctions and you can have some fun with it http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I've had an Olympic Gold Chevelle, love the color now and it's not the normal red, blue, black, yellow etc color you see ALL the time. I've had a Column Shift LS6, again, not the normal thing, it got lots of comments. I vote for keeping it original, I'm not a big fan of green interiors, but I am a big fan of original cars. My camaro convertible was dover white, not a fan of white cars, but I am really glad I kept it original, it was too original to change the color, which I came close to doing, glad I didn't.
It's different, thats for sure. If you get tired of it, you will get more bucks for it's originality and you can use the extra cash on something you like. Of course it's your car and you can and will do what you want to.

A well done restoration, regardless of the color combination will be a stunning car. Most people thought that Burnished Brown and colors like Olympic Gold are unpopular. This is just not true. When done right they are quite beautiful and refreshing in a sea of the more commonly accepted colors. We are in the middle of a Royal Plum 67 Yenko, a color not seem much, and a Corvette Bronze 68 Yenko. Both highly unusual I would think. We will soon be starting a very rare Champage SS396/375 Camaro. One that I think will really be a stunner. If you keep it original, the car will speak for itself..BKH

What's the X code on the car? If it was a X66 the tailpan could be blacked out, along with a strip along the rockers. Olympic gold with those accents would be a good combo. And yes, I'd leave that interior green. Base coat clear coat make those old colors much better.

original colors. cool and different. Tranny change and color change will decrease the value by the cost to return to correct ie. alot. Preserve history or sell it and get a dynacorn, crate motor, richmond 6sp and go nuts.

Keep the stock colors. They work and they're different than most other cars out there. It'll stand-out in a good way. Try to save as much of the original interior parts as possible. You'll love it when it's done then you can find a blue car to restore and park next to it. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

[/ QUOTE ]Mike, If you want to do all these changes to an original BB camaro just go get a nice 6 cylinder/307 car and do these changes. Gold with DG interior is great color combo. I would not change an original BB cars colors, I would get another car to do or sell the one you have for a different color combo. In the old days that color combo would not be real popular with people. But orange, plum crazy and some of the Yenko Deuce colors were NOT real popular around here either. Look at BBBenny's silver COPO/blue interior I love that combo because of the lite blue interior. In 69 most people would have orderd a black or red interior with silver but not the guy who owned that car originally. Ask John Karvonen if he would have changed the color of his brown 69 Z's interior from DG to black again. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif His car is an extremely nice and well restored 69 Z. JMO & All,
I will eventually get around to replying and thanking all of you individually, just don't have time at the moment.
Thank you All for your opinions which I value. I have had enough feedback to determine that I don't want to try and change history! If you think about it, there is alot to said about the history of these 40 yr old muscle cars. So....She will be restored the way she came into this world; a plain Jane on the outside http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif, a bit different, maybe ugly to some http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif maybe beautiful to others but definitely original to the bone except a little better! I can't believe some of the factory welding?? especially on the sub frame. Oly Gold w/Green guts & t400 on the tree!
I'm sure she will grow on me. She will have to, I won't have any choice. Kinda like being married. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Did I really say that? I'll send a pic or two in when shes done. Have a good weekend everyone.

Good idea for a day that I want it to have some piZaZZ. I wouldn't mind having a 2nd hood, can always change back. I know the stinger hood, but not familiar with Black motion/yenko "stinger". Does this involve any painting on the rear deck lid? I think blacking out the rear tail panel would look good. Did COPO cars have black tail panels?

Sorry to take so long to respond. Work is too demanding lately. I'm trying (well over an hour now) to upload about 15 "before" pics..each one 50kb or less and I'm having no luck. I'm not good at this. Can anyone tell this Dummy how to upload more than 1 pic at a time?? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Thank you. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

Maybe it's just me, but that doesn't look like an original big block SS car. Where are the SS emblems, SS hood, etc.? If it's a real SS396 someone did a good job to make it look like a column shift auto base car. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif Looks like most of the original interior would clean up nice though.

Someone didn't want any remnants of the Olympic Gold! Some of it is barely visible in the door jams by the quarter window seals! Would still be cool restored back to the original colors. What kind of BB is it then?

You DID say it was an original BB auto, So if its not an SS396 you're saying it's an original COPO 427 then? And if so, you're thinking of putting a 5 speed in it and painting it blue with black interior? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Mike, you posted that it was an X-44 a few years back. What was the axle code?
And if it was a BB car wouldn't it come with Disk brakes? Not drum brakes? I say that because I dont see a disk brake pedal.
Help me out here, i'm learning.

Good eye John... I must have looked at that interior shot 4 times and never noticed the lack of the disc brake medallion on the pedal.
So Chevycopo, whats the story on the car?
