This is a 1970 03B Baltimore built original SS 396 Chevrolet El Camino which has been my daily driver for the last 4 years. It currently has 121,000 miles thought to be original according to the title history I have. I have an NICB report on the car and I’ll gladly pass it along to the new owner. The engine currently in it is a late 1969 dated 512 casting 454 built two years ago (see below) that now has 10,000 miles on it. It’s matched up to the original TH 400 (VIN stamped) and a 3.42 posi 12 bolt rear with Richmond gears and an Eaton posi. The original 12 bolt 3.31 open differential housing is included in the sale but the open carrier and 3.31 gears are gone.

The car has boxed rear control arms, rear sway bar and new bushings, springs and ball joints throughout the front and rear suspension. It rides on a set of 15x8 Corvette rally wheels and 230 70/15 BF Goodrich Radial T/A’s with less than 10,000 miles on them. It’s got Gabriel air shocks and most of the original lines are still installed from the factory but they aren’t being used.

The engine is an Oct 69 dated 3963512 casting two bolt 454 block bored .040 over, Speed Pro forged pistons, a cast crank (.10/.10) and 3917215 oval port closed chamber heads that have large valves installed. It’s got a Lunati 60202 (Advertised Duration 262/ 268, Lift .530/ .542) Voodoo cam suggested by UD Harold, Edelbrock Performer intake manifold, MSD distributor and a Holley Street Avenger w/ electric choke. It’s got factory exhaust manifolds but I will include a used set of 2455 Hooker headers in great shape. The exhaust is a Flowmaster system with a crossover and chrome tips. It runs perfectly and I’ve taken it on 700 mile trips and gotten 14+ MPG on the highway. It’s got a ton of low end for towing too since that’s what I built it for.

The original TH 400 is installed and has a heavy duty sprag and a B&M towing torque converter. The harder you are on the gas the harder it shifts.

The body is in great shape, VERY straight and it appears that there may have been two new full quarters installed at one time. The car is solid metal and appears to have the original lacquer paint on the front end, hood and doors (some of which is peeling) but I’ve found no putty anywhere and just a couple small spots of rust starting to show. One spot is in the bed and one spot on the driver’s side of the roof just above the drip rail. There are a few stone chips and scratches here and there in the paint and there’s also one small spot of rust on one of the floorboards about the size of a quarter or so. There is a real nice mat for the bed too.

The glass is original, the seat belts are original and the dash instruments are original (green tinted numerals). I’m not sure about the seat or door panels but you also get an extra bench seat (blue) out of another 70 Elky I parted out. The lighter works as does the glove box light.

It’s got a class III hitch, power steering and power brakes. I’ve got the original dated power brake booster that comes with the car too. It works fine but someone had painted it black so I replaced it with a Delco replacement.

Here’s a list of the extra parts that come with the car.

• the original CCW coded 12 bolt housing
• original power brake booster (confirmed correct # booster and date)
• 3 core radiator (not original)
• blue bench seat
• wiper motor
• driveshaft
• 2455 Hooker headers

I live about 5 miles from the Washington Dulles airport and I’d be happy to pick anyone up to see the car or to fly in and drive it home. This Elky has been my daily driver for the last 4 years and has never let me down so I’d have no problem driving it anywhere or any distance. The Elky isn’t perfect but I’ve tried to be honest about its condition and I can’t write it all here in one ad so feel free to call me (703.608.3031) or e-mail me ([email protected]) with any questions. I’ll gladly take more photos or provide more info to anyone seriously interested. The price is $13,500 but I’m open to trade ONLY for a 2002 or newer Chevy Silverado 4X4 extended cab with a V-8, auto and a tow package. I've lowered the price to $12,500 and that's the reserve on her now that she's on e-bay.

If I had $12,500 laying around I'd buy it today. Definitely a cool truck for the money. I love El Caminos!
