Does anyone know if there is a website that has the vin numbers of all the COPO Camaro's built in 1969. I have found the vin's to the all aluminum ZL1's and the Yenko's but I cannot find any other registry for the other vin's.

It seems that 700 COPO cars were built and 198 of them were Yenko's. What about the rest of them?

Also, did any of the iron block 427's come with aluminum heads? Or were they all cast iron?

There used to be a registry that published the known COPO VINs. Probably 200 or so on the registry. That information was removed from the site a couple of years ago.

If you own, or are considering a suspected COPO, post the info here or Camaros.net, and someone will try to help.
VIN, Cowl Tag info, driveline info, etc.

I have information on a 512 block cast A 27 8 with TO318MN on the front pad. There is a vin of 19n****** on the side next to the oil filter. I would like to find more info on this motor and its origin.

That would be an early 9561. There are some original engine and POP N62XXXX Copos with March Pad Stamps. Your casting date is more than likely a "9". They can very much look like an "8" with a bit of casting slag.

Stefano, I think you are right. After cleaning it with a wire brush it looks more like a 9 than an 8. Also the vin is 19n650XXX, which, correct me if I am wrong, would be a later sequintial number.

It also has aluminum heads (3919842). I assume someone put those on at a later date. I have not taken them off to see what the casting date is on them. Did they make these in the 70's or just in 1968 and 1969?

Someone told me that aluminum heads were not factory on the L72's but could have been dealer installed.

No aluminum heads.

There's 10 L72 cars in the db in that VIN range. If you send me the complete VIN, I'll see if I know anything about the car. Also, can I get a picture of the engine pad?

Thanks!

What would be the correct build dates for original heads (3919840), intake and carb if the block is January 27 of 69 and the pad is stamped 3-18? Would the others be around the same casting date as the block?

Also what seems to be realy cool is the aluminum heads look like they were put on the motor right away. The casting dates on them look like 8.10.68 but they are hard to read. Also the head bolt are correct.

We've talked to the early owners of our car, and had people that remember the car new back in the day, tell us that it came with aluminum heads...we've always assumed they were dealer installed, but being a Francis car, it makes one wonder... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hmmm.gif

Wish we could prove they were factory installed...I could use another 75 lbs off the nose! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif
